Yoshitomo Nara @ BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art

If you are lucky enough to be in the UK and haven’t stopped by to see Yoshitomo Nara’s show at the Baltic, this is the last weekend. He teamed up with Hideki Toyoshima (one of the founding members of graf) to build three cross-shaped houses called the “A to Z Project” for the exhibit. It would be so satisfying to be able to walk slowly through this exhibit and explore all the nooks and crannies … hopefully AM will be able to experience something similar […]

Preview: Joe Ledbetter @ M Modern

Palm Springs will play host to Joe Ledbetter’s solo show “Hunters and Gatherers” tomorrow night at M Modern Gallery. His usual cast of characters play out the multiple stories and interactions that he creates for them. He seems to have moved away from the lighter faded linework that he had been experimenting with in previous shows and again is painting with stronger silhouettes. Some selected pieces after the jump.

Preview: Faile @ Lazarides – Vauxhall, UK

When we last left Faile, the Brooklyn collective was hard at work prepping for their upcoming show in the UK.  Now, AM brings you an exclusive glimpse of the show. Set in a abandoned school house in Vauxhall London, Faile and Laz bring the heat on November 7th with “Lost in Glimmering Shadows”. It will be another signature “must see or will regret events” much like the Outsiders show in NYC. Faile – Lost in Glimmering Shadows Lillian Baylis School, Lollard St London, SE11 6PY […]

Preview: Liz McGrath @ Iguapop

Artist and musician Liz McGrath is opening a show tonight in Spain called “Tears of the Crocodile.”  Her grotesque yet beautiful sculptures have always been eye-catching and strangely fascinating.  Her show at Iguapop will feature many detailed works that must be looked at closely to fully appreciate their intricacies.  Examples of this after the jump.

Preview: Nate Frizzell @ Cerasoli:LeBasse

Nate Frizzell’s “Put on a Happy Face” opens November 8th at the new Cerasoli:LeBasse gallery. He took a little time to talk with us about his first solo show. “With this show, I’m trying to convey the mixed emotions that people have from day to day. Some may be depressing, some happy, some scared, and some brave. I feel like for myself, my mood is constantly changing, and I act accordingly. I put on a different mask to let people know where I stand at […]

Shepard Fairey x Barack Obama: Vote print

We have confirmed that the new Obama ”VOTE“ image which Shepard Fairey and AM premiered in DC will indeed be made into an official print to be sold on Barack Obama’s website! It should drop in the weeks prior to the election, so keep your eyes on the site. The edition size will be 5000 and should have a $70 price point. This will be Shepard’s 2nd print in the “Artists for Obama” product line. As with everything Shepard has donated to Obama’s campaign, all proceeds will continue to support the Barack […]

Preview: In the Language of Angels @ Ad Hoc

This Saturday, Ad Hoc Art will be opening “In The Language of Angels“. With six young and extremely talented artists from around the world: Sarah Joncas (Canada), Camilla d’Errico (Canada), Mia (USA), Lisa Alisa (Russia), Mijn Schatje (France) and Simone Maynard (Australia), it should be exciting to see each of them display the softer “angelic” side of Pop Surrealism.   We’ve gathered some special preview images of the pieces that will be on display at the show after the jump.

Wooster Collective Blek Le Rat special edition

Wooster Collective recently unveiled their forthcoming Wooster special edition with influential French stencil artist Blek Le Rat. Apparently, a few of the special edition book and print sets (limited to 300 copies) were available last weekend at the opening of the Blek Le Rat (and Doze Green) show at Jonathan Levine Gallery. Look for the rest of the edition to drop on the Wooster Collective site sometime soon.

Dzama print @ Editions|Artists’ Book Fair

The 2008 Editions|Artists’ Book Fair will be held in NYC on Friday, October 31 through Sunday, November 2, and will include 63 exhibitors of fine art prints, multiples and artists’ books from around the world. Admission to the fair is free, which is great given the world’s current economy. And even those collectors who have tightened their pursestrings may feel the urge to loosen them up when they see the very affordable ($175), Halloween-themed limited edition print Canadian art star Marcel Dzama created specifically for […]

Interviews: Tin

There’s a monster LA art weekend (well, including a Thursday) that we will be talking more about coming up in November featuring Craola, Audrey Kawasaki & Friends, Kukula (teased here), Sas Christian, and Tin. First up, an interview that Tin did with us by graciously setting aside some time from his busy painting schedule. AM was first inspired to approach him not only because of his tremendous talent but because there is just not that much information out on this emerging artist. Hopefully, you will […]
