Openings: Jim Houser & Richard Colman @ White Walls

Jim Houser and Richard Colman’s “Awful Mountain” (previewed) opened last night at White Walls in SF. As usual, Houser’s installations complemented his paintings perfectly. If only collectors could have him go to their houses and setup the pieces they own in a similar fashion. Colman had some large pieces that were quite eyecatching.  His work has some similarities to Dalek (we hear they are long-time friends with their first show in the scene being a two-person show at Merry Karnowsky years back) but seems more […]

Stopped by Jeff Soto’s studio last week to check out his progress on his upcoming show at the Riverside Art Museum as well as introduce him to the guys at Modus Films. We’re working on a little project that we think you will enjoy. In the meantime, take a look at one of the large paintings he is working on! More after the jump.

Dan Witz: Kilroy Variations

Dan Witz has posted up some images up of his project the “Kilroy Variations,” his take on the ubiquitous “Kilroy was here” graffiti.  He originally this project in 2006, but this 2008 update has evolved quite a bit since it’s beginnings. This version has various photo-realistic people as well as cartoons peeping through or sticking fingers out through vents and ducts.  These are photo-based, re-painted stickers, mounted on plastic and then glued on walls/doors.  I think if it was dark and you came upon these suddenly, it could be quite […]

Preview: Scott Belcastro @ Cerasoli:LeBasse

Scott Belcastro’s newest display of work will be shown on November 8th at the Cerasoli:Lebasse gallery as part of a two-person show with Nate Frizzell (previewed). He gave us a little insight on the show. “The theme of the show is based on the idea of being lost in the thicket or the forest….while searching for a home for your beliefs or feelings. I like the fact that I can bring someone into my feelings and they can look around for awhile, it’s not easy […]
