Preview: Outsiders by Lazarides – NYC

So after tearing up the UK urban art scene for the past few years… the infamous Lazarides is going to hold a surprise show in the “big apple” next week. Laz is a UK gallery known for representing some of the most notable artists in the Urban/Street scene such as Banksy, Micallef and Faile. It will be interesting to see what they bring to represent in their first New York show. More to come as Arrested Motion will be on hand at the invite-only preview […]

Teaser: Josh Keyes @ OKOK

Josh Keyes posted a stunning new image up today from his upcoming show “Mist” at OKOK gallery next month. We really love the multiple levels of interactions in this piece. From the water-fire hydrant association to the predator-prey relationships of the eagle-rabbit & bear-fish, there certainly is much to think about. This is easily one of the our most anticipated shows to close out 2009 so we have been hard at work gathering as much information as we can. Josh is expected to deliver about […]

Benefit: Art for Hope @ Merry Karnowsky Gallery

The Merry Karnowsky Gallery in LA will be hosting a fundraising event the evening of Oct. 1 to benefit Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. The event will include an art show featuring works by The Clayton Brothers, Camille Rose Garcia, Seonna Hong and others. Especially for the benefit, pop surrealist superstar Mark Ryden is producing an exclusive limited edition print, with all proceeds going to the Obama Victory Fund. And for all you who aren’t in LA, you can get the print now, even if you […]

Openings: Masakatsu Sashie @ Giant Robot 2

Masakatsu Sashie‘s show “Under Fluorescent Light” opened last Saturday at GR2 on the west side. As usual, his detailed spheres encompassing urban elements (buildings, vending machines, air conditioners, television sets) were quite eye-catching. It’s as if his so-called “orb paintings” shrunk the ingredients of city living into a compact package for consumption. Another interesting item for sale was this model kit of one of his “orb paintings” that was for sale. Limited 50 pieces and nicely priced at $100, these must have sold out. Hopefully […]

Preview: Murakami Retrospective – Frankfurt, Germany

photo via New YorkerDid you miss the Takashi Murakami Retrospective exhibition this year at the MOCA LA and the Brooklyn Museum? You’ll soon get another chance to see the creator of the “SuperFlat” art movement this weekend in Frankfurt, Germany. The Museums für Moderne Kunst will be opening its doors this Friday (Sept 26th, 2008) for a special “preview night” for members and patrons of the Museum. The exhibition is open to the general public officially on Saturday (Sept 27th, 2008). While we all wait […]

News from Tin

Because we are young collectors, we haven’t had much opportunities to watch an artist’s career blossom from the very beginnings. Emerging artist Tin is one of those happy exceptions and we have been following his rapidly ascending career with much interest. Here’s his latest painting that he posted on his blog today. Love the robotic animal themes that he works in with his female figures in increasingly complex environments. Looks great with his classic sepia/black & white palette but he’s turning this one into an […]

Preview: Baby Tattooville

The second annual Baby Tattooville is fast approaching (October 3-5). This unique event, billed as a “limited edition retreat for artists & collectors,” has grown on us and Arrested Motion will be on hand to cover the event. The idea was for 50 paying attendees to spend the weekend participating in scheduled activities (panels, workshops, etc) and to socialize with the event’s artists. This year’s featured artists are Ana Bagayan, Glenn Barr, Dave Cooper, Bob Dob, Joe Ledbetter, Brandi Milne, Daniel Peacock, Shag, Amy Sol […]

Openings: A night at Kaws’ Miami show

As a follow-up to our preview of Kaws’ “Saturated” show at Emmanuel Perrotin in Miami, we have some EXCLUSIVE pictures from our friend Kim, who generously shared with us a little opening night access! Kaws was on hand to sign some goodies for his legion of fans! It seems that Kim even got a little gift from the man himself! *Note that this show is “curated” by Pharrell and were NOT commissions for the trend-setting producer. So, the works were available for sale to the general public, but as […]

Openings: Audrey Kawasaki @ Mondo Bizzarro

Many have waited with baited breath for the first photos from Audrey Kawasaki’s first solo show out of the States to appear on the net. She finally had a chance to upload show photos from Mondo Bizzarro (Italy) onto her blog yesterday. For a couple weeks, the only image available was her next to her showstopper “Two Sisters” that had been floating around on flickr. Now there are plenty like the ones below… Such nice frames, more after the jump.

Preview: Kaws at Emmanuel Perrotin

“I’m sure” 68×68 Today Kaws (AKA Brian Donnelly) will open his exhibition “Saturated” at Emmanuel Perrotin in Miami. Ending his long hiatus from the gallery circuit, Kaws will make his long awaited return with a gallery known for representing blue chippers such as: Takashi Murakami and Robert Stadler. Curated by mainstream tastemaker and producer Pharrell Williams with works stemming from animation icon “Sponge Bob SquarePants”, Kaws is certainly making a splash with his return to the gallery circuit! We can’t wait to see what he […]
