Art Basel Vernissage - Basel Week Switzerland
Art Basel Switzerland is hands-down the Mecca of the art world. Once a year, the industry’s elite galleries converge in Europe to celebrate and exchange some of the most coveted pieces by the world’s top art stars. This year of course wasn’t much different, although many collectors came to shop for their dream pieces of art and many came in search of bargains. It seems that galleries were recession conscious as they priced their inventory at prices which would entice even the most thrifty art fans.
As with Art Basel Miami, celebrities were sure to be spotted. Brad Pitt picked up a work by Neo Rauch called “Etappe” for $960,000 from the David Zwirner gallery in New York at the advisement of fellow LA art lover and billionaire, Eli Broad.

Etappe is a mind boggling painting. The racing stripes coming out of the racecar is something that Eli Broad commented that he liked. I find the painting amazing also. Cheers to Brad for flying across the globe to spend his money to support the Arts. (FYI - Brad also owns a few Banksy’s too.)
