On Saturday night, AM was on hand to experience the surreal sculptures of Kris Kuksi as Joshua Liner Gallery hosted the opening of his latest show the “Beast Anthology.” As seen in our preview of the show, the show looked like a literal monster, but nothing prepared us for seeing the work in person. The physical intricacies of his craftsmanship coupled with the fantastical stories unfolding in every piece held the packed house in a unique trance that we’ve rarely experienced from an art show in New York.

From the opening moments of the show, the gallery was filled with hip and artistic heads looking to mingle and socialize, but unlike some openings, the work was actually what mesmerized attendees. Conversations were kept at a minimum as groups huddled around each piece in amazement. It was refreshing to see the people more interested in studying the art as opposed to worrying about where the “adult-beverages” were. If you are in NYC before December 19th, please do yourself some justice and check out this awesome show.
