Contests: Femke Hiemstra Giveaway

For those who missed the sold out show from Femke Hiemstra at Roq La Rue (RLR) last month, we have a special giveaway for you. Kirsten from RLR has put together a delightful little package to gift to one of our lucky readers. This includes a copy of Hiemstra’s “Rock Candy” book, a signed show card, and a VERY RARE limited edition giclee print of “Der Huter” (The actual edition was 10, but this is AP that was limited to 5, signed and numbered by the Dutch artist).

All you have to do is tell us which piece from her show at RLR was your favorite and why on the comments below or on our contest post on our facebook. Also look for Femke’s next show in Germany at Feinkunst Krüger in May and another big show with RLR in November.

Discuss Femke Hiemstra here.

The Collector, got me at first sight

  • Garrett L.

I’m a big fan of La Fee. The color is amazing.

  • Barbara

I love “Sonnambulo” because it has so many elements and it’s just plain gorgeous!

  • Laura

I just love der Huter, the ghost is so beautifully painted and I love that peanut. As if it couldn’t get any better, my cat looks just like it.

  • colin

Sonnambulo is my favorite. Book cover FTW.

  • Tora

I like “Death of A Ghost” very much because of the atmosphere it creates with its colours and composition

  • aramas

Id have to say “L’Arrivee”. I love the aged look about it. The pale almost statuesque look of the head. And the little butterfly creature down the bottom

  • justin

gotta go with “Sonnambulo” too… i’ve always been fascinated by those spiky seed pods. they were all over my neighborhood when i was a kid and were a constant nemesis from my action figures, playing the role of bombs, alien invaders, other worldly terrain… whatever i could dream up. it’s like pulling an old storybook out a box of dirt & forgotten memories.

  • Riko

I love them all. But to choose just one, it’d have to be “Death of A Ghost”. The luminosity, subjects, and intricate detail is just truly amazing!

  • pascual

Death of a ghost, the idea itself is disturbing…

  • henning

    L’Arrivee – einfach abgefahren – plain awesome

“Death of a Ghost”. Love the different faces on the mice (especially the one crying). The colors so rich and the expression on the “ghost” is just mesmerizing. I wish I lived on the west coast so I can go to all these galleries and see these shows live.

der huter is the piece that does it for me; the look of bemused malevolence on our felines face is brilliant.

  • Jann

The Collector: love it on vintage books!

  • Eric

Der Huter, no question. It’s all about the peanut.

  • Lynn

It’s a toss up between The Candy Maker because the dog is so cute and The Collector because of the asian influence.

  • Bernard

Der Huter because it reminds me of my long lost pal Mike the Cat.

  • Debbie

    Candy Maker, love the shape!

  • John

Death of a ghost …. mice working together to get a respected but now defunct ghost buried, brilliant! Really eerie, lovely flowing text and I really like the drummers hat. I want that hat!
