Teaser: “Playboy Redux” @ the Warhol Museum

The 50th Anniversary of the first Playboy Club opening in in 1960 will be celebrated in style at the Warhol Museum at the end of this month. Artists including Gary Baseman (featured), Tim Biskup, Shag (interviewed), Frank Kozik, Andrew Schoultz, SEEN, and of course Tara McPherson have been asked to reinterpret the iconic Playboy Bunny for the exhibition. The show will open on March 27th with a special pajama party and then to the general public starting March 28th. Discuss this show here.

Another great group show opens this Friday, March 12th in Seattle at the Roq La Rue gallery. Streets: David Choe in LA

Looks like David Choe (featured) has been plastering the streets of Los Angeles in preparation for his solo show (teased) in the City of Angels at the end of April. “Nothing to Declare” will be put on by Lazarides in Beverly Hills in a special space and rumors are Choe’s show won’t be the only show hosted in that location before all is said and done. The AM crew will definitely be out in force for this one so look for more coverage to follow. […]

StolenSpace held a pretty special closing party this week for the Original Cultures show, the opening of which we attended a couple of weeks back. Will Barras, DEM and Ericailcane took to the icy cold streets of London for an outdoor painting event to conclude the gallery show. Just like Jonathan LeVine Gallery last month (covered), Hi-Fructose is celebrating their five year anniversary with a group show with artists that have been featured in their publication since the very beginning. Last weekend, Camille Rose Garcia kicked off her book signing tour at Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles. There were long lines as fans queued up to get her illustrated “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” book signed and to check out the accompanying exhibition entitled “Down The Rabbit Hole”. West Hollywood’s fledgling, ambitious, and architecturally magnificent Prism gallery opened its second exhibition this past weekend. Delivering on their promise to show internationally recognized artists, Prism hosted the controversial and legendary Japanese photographer Nobuyoshi Araki, with a selection of about 70 of his works. The Tokyo-based artist is one of Japan’s most accomplished, notable, and respected photographers. His photos explore topics including love and sex and features his wife, Yoko, in much of his work. Update: Banksy vs. Robbo

Based on pictures from Robbo and his crew, it looks like they have gone and modified more Banksy pieces, warping their meanings. If you remember this all started in Camden with a stencil Banksy put up over a vintage Robbo tag, with the ensuing retaliation (here & here) from Robbo. Not sure how long the graffiti artists plans to continue defacing pieces from Banksy, but it seems a little much now… More images after the jump…
