Video: R. Crumb – “The Bible Illuminated: R. Crumb’s Book of Genesis” @ David Zwirner

After stopping by the David Zwirner booth at Art Basel last year and checking out the wonderful Marcel Dzama pieces in their inventory, we also learned about an upcoming R. Crumb show. The controversial show from the infamous cartoonist featuring a comic version of the first book of the Old Testament (previewed), has come and gone but the good folks of Vernnisage TV have documented everything with some video footage (seen above).

Openings: Justin BUA @ Pop International Gallery

On Thursday night, AM was on hand to catch the opening of  Justin BUA’s homecoming show at the Pop International Gallery. Justin’s innovative mix of urban and illustrative styles drew many of the Big Apple’s finest out to attend the opening. As mentioned in our preview, this show had an impressive mix of old and new. From his classic “DJ” and “1981” to his latest centerpieces of Muhammad Ali and Jay-Z, he shows his talent for using his illustrative techniques and his creativity to capture […]

Banksy & David Choe’s Films to Screen in U.S.

Street art lovers will be happy to hear that two pretty awesome films “Dirty Hands” and “Exit Through The Gift Shop” from David Choe (featured) and Banksy respectively will be opening in select cities in the United States. Although not a general release as of yet, this might be our best chance stateside (at least in major metropolitan areas) to get a look at these documentary/films. “Exit Through The Gift Shop” will be showing in LA, NY, and SF starting on April 16th and hopefully […]

D*Face x Christina Aguilera “Bionic” Album Cover

Looks like the rumors of D*Face (interviewed) creating the cover for noted art collector and singer Christina Aguilera’s newest album were true. After hitting up the Oscars earlier this month, the winged one continues his forays into American pop culture with this “Bionic” album (scheduled for a June release). Although mostly devoid of classic D*Face imagery, on closer examination, you can see his name and logo there along with others important in Aguilera’s life like “Jordan” for her husband, “Mom” for her mother, and “Max” […]

Video: Nick Walker – “Le Corancan”

Nick Walker (interviewed) just sent us over a little video he put together of the “Le Corancan” piece we showed you earlier that he put up in France. It’s always nice to see Nick in action especially with this complex stencil. Discuss Nick Walker here.

Streets: TrustoCorp – San Francisco to New York City

TrustoCorp (covered) went bi-coastal this month, hitting up the greater San Francisco area with some of his classic street signs; and then following that up with a fresh batch of new designs for his hometown, New York City. The counter-cultural and artistic parallels between the East Bay’s Berkeley and New York’s East Village are plentiful, making both locations ripe for the bombing.  As always, if you’re a resident of any city that TrustoCorp has hit up, please feel free to upload any pictures you may […]

Preview: Christy Langer – “Meticulous Engagements” @ Shooting Gallery

Sculptor Christy Langer sent AM an exclusive preview of a couple of her new pieces that will be featured in the upcoming “Meticulous Engagements” show coming soon to the Shooting Gallery. Showing with Kris Kuksi (featured), Langer’s resin, fiberglass and oil painted animals appear to be the perfect compliment to Kuksi’s minutia assemblages. Stay tuned for a preview from Kuksi as well as the show approaches. Check out the full preview after the jump.

The twins from Sao Paulo have opened the next installment of their famed “Verti” exhibition at the CCBB Brasilia. With their signature yellow characters and bright array of hometown colors, we see them create another stunning exhibition with installations of cars, boxes and visually interactive goodies for the lucky folks of Brazil. The exhibition runs until May […]

Update: Shepard Fairey – May Day @ Deitch Projects

Looks like more information is coming out about the upcoming Shepard Fairey show at Deitch Projects (teased). The exhibition entitled “May Day” (for multiple reasons) will feature mostly portraiture celebrating some of the artists, musicians and political activists the artist most admires, although this flag piece is pretty sexy too… Says Fairey, “These people I’m portraying were all revolutionary, in one sense or another. They started out on the margins of culture and ended up changing the mainstream. When we celebrate big steps that were made […]
