Releases: Ron English x Toy Tokyo x Secret Base

Following his several previous, and now mostly sold out, releases with Secret Base and Toy Tokyo, Ron English (covered) returns with yet another version of his now classic McSuperSized figure. This time around Ronald (McDonald, not English) sports a white/purple/green and clear colorway and is available through ARMTH’s Zozotown store, available now. More pictures after the jump.

Releases: Ed Templeton – “Drinking the Kool-Aid” Artist Book

Mörel Books, publisher of the highly acclaimed and gorgeous Moonmilk book by Ryan McGinley, is coming out with a book by fellow photographer, artist, and skateboard legend Ed Templeton. Templeton, a Huntington Beach, CA native and resident, works in multiple mediums while exploring his surroundings, personal relationships, and the outskirts of suburban life. Openings: Anthony Lister – “How to Catch a Time Traveler” @ Lyons Wier Gallery

Anthony Lister (interviewed) opened his latest solo show in New York at the Lyons Wier Gallery last night. In attendance were his usual tied up superheroes, this time with one hanging upside down from the ceiling. As evident by the artwork, Lister continues to explore his fascination with superheroes through paintings, drawings, custom action figures, and sculptures. More pics after the jump…

Preview: Jeremy Fish – “The Road Less Traveled” @ Andenken Gallery

Openings: Ryan McGinley – “Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere” @ Team Gallery

Thursday night, Ryan McGinley opened his latest body or work “Everybody Knows This is Nowhere” at SOHO’s Team Gallery. This homecoming show for the young and talented photographer was jammed packed from the opening moments – it almost seemed that every other attendee in the dense crowd was a friend or acquaintance of the renowned photographer. Preview: Dan May – “Beneath the Noise” @ Rotofugi

Opening tonight at Rotofugi is a new body of work from Dan May (interviewed). “Beneath the Noise” features some nice size pieces like “Bittersweet Departure” (seen above) sized at 18 x 18″ as well as some affordable smaller pieces. It also looks like Dan is continuing to incorporate the human form into his imagery with his usual stunning attention to detail and color. See some pics of the install after the jump…

Highlights: Recommended Openings for March 18 – March 20

Carmichael Gallery’s move to Culver City is the big news this weekend. With the debut North American solo show from Brazilian artist Nina Pandolfo “Life’s Flavor” serving as their debut exhibition, this proves to be a not to be missed event. Look for several shots of the show coming together after the jump, as well as a full breakdown of all the other shows keeping art lovers busy this weekend.

Studio Visits: Lola

Opening next Saturday, March 27th in Culver City will be Lola’s newest solo show – “Ipsum Factum” (teased) at the Corey Helford Gallery. AM lucky enough to be able to stop by her studio a while back to check on the progress on this new body of work. Preview: Retna – “Desaturated” @ New Image Art

On Saturday night, March 20th, New Image Art will be hosting a new solo show from well-known graffiti artist Retna. Known for taking fashion advertisements and overlaying them with his special graffiti linework and symbology, this exhibition will bring that process into the gallery setting.  As you can see from these images sniped from Modern Multiples (featured), Retna spent some time in the LA printmaking studio with master printer Richard Duardo getting ready for this show.
