David LaChapelle – “From Darkness to Light” @ Lever House (New York)

Fresh off last week’s opening of his Hong Kong solo exhibition, Raft (covered), David La Chapelle is set to unveil an even more unorthodox body of work of installation-based work. Opening at Lever House Art Collection tomorrow, June 2nd, From Darkness to Light will utilize photography in three distinct ways – collage, stickers, and paper chain. Set a little closer to home in New York City, the native photographic icon this this time draws inspiration from “the simplicity of childhood endeavors taught in early art lessons, re-imagined through the lens of adulthood”.  The youthful approach juxtaposed with sexually explicit photographs epitomizes the innocence lost with age, each piece composed of elementary methods yet presented in a contemporary design aesthetic.
