Portuguese artist Vhils’ unique work is always in high demand and because of this, he has been busy hitting up the hottest street art events around the world recently. One of the most celebrated and revered American artists working today, Chuck Close recently unveiled an exhibition of brand new paintings, prints, and tapestries at Culver City’s Blum and Poe. FIAC Coverage

Following the Frieze week in London (covered here), AM headed off to Paris to visit the FIAC, the Foire Internationale d’Art Contemporain in Paris at the Grand Palais, host to 168 galleries. While Frieze focuses exclusively on contemporary art, the FIAC also combines early 20th century modern art with the contemporary. Of interest, Karl Lagerfeld designed the booth of Zurich’s Gallery Gmurzynska for the Rebels curated by Isabelle Bscher and featuring Jean-Michel Basquiat, Lucio Fontana, Yves Klein, Andy Warhol as well as Banksy and Scott Campbell. Last month in Berlin, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Foundation’s Human Rights Award for 2011 was awarded to Khaled Said of Egypt and Slim Amamou of Tunisia. Said’s sister, Zahraa Kassem received the award on the late activist’s behalf at a ceremony that included the unveiling of a portrait created by Andreas von Chrzanowski (aka Case) on remnants of the Berlin Wall and will be eventually placed in the Freedom Park (covered). This Saturday, November 5th, in Los Angeles, João Ruas will be presenting a solo exhibition at the Thinkspace Gallery in Culver City. Two members of the Army of Snipers crew, Aaron “Angry Woebots” Martin and Pixel Pancho, recently teamed up together for some large murals in Los Angeles. Martin doesn’t usually go so big, but his friend and collaborator from Italy showed the way. We especially like this wall with Martin’s signature panda character changed into a grizzly and Pixel Pancho with his robotic version. More photos after the jump…

Last weekend, the Jaski Gallery provided the walls for Tessar Lo as he presented a whole new collection of a paintings for fans in Amsterdam. Entitled The Dying Wishes, the new work built on an abstracted style that the Toronto-based artist has been developing for a while now. The continued refinement and practice certainly seems to have paid off as the resulting pieces on display were rich in palette, balanced in composition, and visually lush.
