Publications: Tauba Auerbach “Folds” Book

Now available from Sternberg Press comes Folds, an elegantly produced and insightful publication chronicling Tauba Auerbach’s captivating series of paintings by the same name. Co-published by Bergern Kunsthall and released on the occasion of her recent museum solo exhibition, Tetrachromat, the 100-page hardcover book presents 65 color illustrations of the dimension warping works alongside mathematical diagrams and descriptive text, collectively shedding light on the creation and intention of the pivotal series. Streets / Teaser: EVOL @ Pictures on Walls

Hitting up London ahead of his showing at Pictures On Walls on December 1st, German artist EVOL installed some his distinctive work at Smithfield Market. Featuring his uncanny ability to transform urban objects into tiny cityscapes, this latest street intervention will only fuel the fires of fans in the UK as EVOL and full supporting cast of artists take over POW with their upcoming show. Preview / Setup: Interesni Kazki – “Nothing Special” @ Mid-City Arts

AM stopped by Mid-City Arts yesterday to visit with Ukranian duo, Interesni Kazki, as they prepared a new body of work for their show opening on Saturday night, November 19th. Like their recent exhibition in Milan (covered), Nothing Special will feature an indoor translation of of their surreal outdoor murals as well as some other surprises. Releases: Aurel Schmidt / Franz Wright – “Reveries Of A Lost Life Mask” Limited Edition Book

Streets: Shepard Fairey – La Brea Mural (Completed)

Last week, AM stopped by for a visit with Shepard Fairey (featured) and the OBEY crew as they started work on the La Brea mural. The huge wall that wrapped around the former Continental Graphic’s building was created in association with the District La Brea group show (covered) at MK2 Projects. Showing: Geoff McFetridge – “My Head Disappears when my Hands are Thinking” @ Heath Ceramics

This neat little project from Geoff McFetridge, whose work we last ogled at in his solo show in Copenhagen, was brought to our attention recently. The LA-based artist just opened an exhibition at the renowned Heath Ceramics in Los Angeles featuring his paintings on the walls and some special ceramic products, many of which are one of a kind. Openings: Thomas Doyle – “Surface to Air” @ LeBasse Projects

Over the weekend, Lebasse Projects unveiled the new solo exhibition, Surface to Air, by artist Thomas Doyle. The artwork included a variety of photographs and sculptural work which touched upon the themes of destruction in suburbian landscapes. One half of the exhibit featured an incredible collection of miniatures that were created with an insane amount of detail and craftsmanship. Although the pieces were small in size, it demanded the viewer to truly pay close attention to the intricacies and settings which Doyle attempted to recreate. […]

Preview: SIXEART – “Cosmovisión Andina y los Hijos del Inti” @ Galería N2

Opening this Thursday 17 November, Sixeart is back to the N2 Galería, in Barcelona, Spain, where some of the discerning public found out about his work a year before the Tate Modern discovered him. The new solo show entitled Cosmovisión Andina y los Hijos del Inti is an approximation to the ancient cultures of the Andes, full of colour, wisdom and misticism. Openings: “District La Brea” Group Exhibition @ MK2 Projects

Last weekend, MK2 Projects, the special exhibition space of Merry Karnowsky in Los Angeles, hosted a group showing from Shepard Fairey, Deedee Cheriel, Mercedes Helnwein, Mark Whalen / Kill Pixie, Mel Kadel, Travis Millard, Matt Small, Samuel Lowder (FrePrs), Lezley Saar, Aiko Nakagawa, Todd Carpenter and Steven R.
