Prolific Aussie artist Anthony Lister (interviewed) recently put on a show with Gallery A.S. entitled Bogan Paradise. After plastering Los Angeles with his work in August, this new show in his home country is staged in a recently de-zoned sex shop in Sydney’s Chinatown and challenges conceptions of the Australian identity – those attributes perceived as both positive and negative. In particular, Lister explores Larrikinism, “the name given to the Australian folk tradition of irreverence, mockery of authority and disregard for rigid norms of propriety.”
