A couple weeks ago, we posted up a video of the amazing Black Ceremony fireworks display fromĀ Cai Guo-Qiang that signified the explosive start of hisĀ exhibition at the Arab Museum of Modern Art (Mathaf) in Qatar. Now, we can show you some photos we gathered of the incredible sculptures, installations, and works for this showing from the Chinese artist including many site-specific commissioned works. Saraab strives to bring attention to the little known historic Silk Road, a trade route between the Asian and Middle East during the Han dynasty.

Highlights from the exhibition include Endless (Qatari houri boats and a traditional Chinese fishing boat placed together), Fragile (a porcelain mural scripted on in Arabic calligraphy with gunpowder), Route (a modern nautical map created in ancient format with gunpowder), 99 Horses (99 gold-leafed horses suspended in front huge gunpowder drawing), Homecoming (stones from Quanzhou with Arabic inscriptions of tombstones from Quanzhou’s historic Arab community), and Flying Together (suspended falcons and a camel hanging in midair).
