Rewind: March 12 – March 18

First up for this week’s Rewind feature is this video showing Evan Roth’s novel use of spray cans from his Propulsion Painting series (via today and tomorrow). Art Focus: Tania Blanco

This weekend’s Art Focus is on Spanish artist Tania Blanco and her series of Sleep-Drunk Vademecum paintings. The intriguing set of rounded acrylic on wood pieces are her treatise on science and the human condition featuring medical instruments, high precision technology, scientific devices, anatomical models, and clandestine laboratories as her subjects. Last night, the Michael Kohn Gallery hosted a special signing and show from Los Angeles-based painter Camille Rose Garcia (interviewed). Preview: Ericailcane – “Una Vita Violente” @ FIFTY24MX Gallery

Tomorrow night in Mexico City, Italian street specialist Ericailcane will be opening up a show alongside compatriot HitneS at the FIFTY24MX Gallery. This new body of work, Una Vita Violente, was inspired by writings of Pier Paolo Pasolini, and will metaphorically explore the human condition at its most brutal state through his signature animal characters rendered in his illustrative style. Preview: “My Turn” @ Carmichael Gallery

This Saturday night (March 17) in Culver City, the Carmichael Gallery will be hosting a group exhibition entitled My Turn. Openings: Antony Micallef – “A Little Piece of Me” @ The Outsiders

Last week, Antony Micallef’s (interviewed) show featuring his ongoing Head series opened at The Outsiders in London. The gifted painter put ten examples of his abstract gestural works on display and collectively named the exhibition A Little Piece of Me, an apt term seeing as these works are somewhat self-portraits and an integral part of his work process even when creating his larger works. Videos: The Simpsons – “Exit Through The Kwik-E-Mart”

If you missed the Exit Through The Kwik-E-Mart on The Simpsons that aired earlier this month, you can now watch the entire episode on Hulu. Episode 15 of the 23rd season features Shepard Fairey, Ron English, Kenny Scharf, and Robbie Conal as they give Bart some tongue-in-cheek career advice on being a street artist.

Armory Week ’12: ADAA Art Show – First Look

The Armory Art Show (here & here) may be the flagship event of Armory Week in New York, but the most prestigious title this year goes to another. The ADAA Art Show held at the Park Avenue Armory (covered) was a smaller, but more selective fair. Like a small jewelery box, this event drew some of the top galleries from around the nation.
