American artist Maya Hayuk recently visited Cologne, Germany where she took part in its CityLeaks Urban Art Festival. It is the second time that the event has been organized there this year. With focus of the project being on inviting artists to intervene with Cologne’s public spaces and exhibit their work in various galleries and off-locations, Hayuk made a huge street mural, as well as opened a solo show at AF Galery.

After collaborating with Billabong on her own line of beach clothes and releasing a print with infamous PicturesOnWalls from London, Hayuk opened a solo show on June 1. For this show, the artist prepared various pieces of artwork, from acrylic, ink, and spray paint originals, through to a couple of different one-off screen prints, and finally to signed photo prints of her newly finished mural. Featuring her recognizable color palette, her symmetrical abstract images, drippy patterns of bright color lines that are looking both very traditional and indigenous, as well as very modern and hip, this show is a great overview of her recent body of work that she has been exploring lately. The show is on the view until the 29th of June, so make sure you check it out if you’re in the area.
