Paulo Arraiano is one of the artists that currently has an open studio as a part of the ongoing Cidadela Art District project in Lisbon run by Pousada de Cascais Cidadela Historic Hotel. Alongside Pedro Matos (covered), Bruno Pereira, Paulo Brighenti, Duarte Amaral Netto and Susana Anágua, the Portuguese artist got a chance to present his artwork in every space of hotel, from the fortress to the lobby, corridors, public areas and rooms.

Curated by Sandro Resende and developed by Group Pestana CAD, Arraino’s show Magma I includes a coherent body of work which literally invades the space. Through multidimensional murals that cover the walls, exhibited canvas and paper pieces, and a video installation about the Emotional Landscapes project, his colorful abstract magma takes over the surface it appears on. By creating works that can be applied in such different ways, the artist brings contemporary art into every day life’s context, which is one of the main ideas of the Art District project.
