On March 27, David Bloch Gallery in Marrakech will continue their program of introducing relevant international urban artists to the Morroco with a solo exhibition OFF/GRID by Augustine Kofie (featured). For this show, LA-based artist will collaborate with local craftsmen to produce “work that merges established Moroccan artistic traditions with his own brand of American contemporary expression.”

The title of the show refers to the features that his work have been known for – the juxtaposition and the synthesis of styles, tones and shapes, and the tension between these visual elements. While seemingly very strict and “on grid,” Kofie’s work is very abstract, freestyle and does not follow any established patterns. By mixing mediums and techniques, the artist is constantly improvising and experimenting away from what is seen as the norm. This is especially noticeable in futuristic looking pieces that are created using office supply materials from the 1950s to the 1980s, or new pieces that are produced in collaboration with local craftsmen. The exhibition will continue until April 26.
