Showing through this Saturday at Joshua Liner Gallery in New York is Erin M. Riley’s (interviewed) solo show entitled Darkness Lies Ahead. The exhibition gives fans a good look at some of the different series of works she has woven so far in her career including the Selfies featuring portraiture sourced from young women on the internet as well as from her own self-portraits and The History Pieces, works that document car crashes, skid marks, and the residue of trauma. Riley’s weavings are a merging of a traditional medium with a modern point of view and are intriguing to see in person, especially in this showing seeing as she has created her largest works to date for the occasion.
