On 3rd of March Maya Hayuk will be back at Alice Gallery in Brussels to open her third solo with the gallery – Grow Room. From the few preview images we’ve seen, the show will include more complex compositions from the Brooklyn-based artist.

Through intricate patterns and lush colors, Hayuk creates paintings and murals that recall traditional Ukrainian crafts, airbrushed manicures, and mandalas. Both rebelliously psychedelic and strictly symmetric, her works balance between creating a visual illusion and reusing orthodox weaving patterns. The new pieces look to be further experimentations, zooming in into her signature X shapes, giving a sense of depth and dimension through layers of vivid colors. Also, she created new works in which she is playing with the negative space and more organic forms, and even merged these freehand and geo-based patterns into an eclectic mix of recognizable colors and shapes.
