The Mine, a contemporary art space based in Al Quoz (Dubai’s industrial art district) is currently showing Between The Lines (through June 8th), a group show curated by Rom Levy. Featuring works by Andrew Schoultz, Kenton Parker, RETNA, Andrew Faris, Paul Insect, BAST, eL Seed, Jenny Sharaf and Word to Mother, this showcase is the debut presentation of their work in the region for most of the artists included.

This show was organized as a response to the noise of today’s overly decorative urban art scene, giving a chance for the artists to return back to where it all began – the purity of line. Through different styles, techniques, and work approaches, the participants  (mostly from the UK and USA) show the power of the simplest element of art. From Parker’s hypnotic geo effect, Retna or El Seed’s calligraphic line work, Schoultz’ detailed, intricate visual language to BAST’s loose almost line-free works, the exhibition gives a nice overview of the power of the line to show velocity, direction, connection, and form.
