On July 15th, Luis De Jesus Los Angeles will be opening L.A. Paintings, solo show by Erik Olson. With this exhibition, Düsseldorf-based artist will be introducing his ongoing project that includes exploration and experimentation with portraiture. Marking the culmination of the series of works that peaked during his recent art residency at The La Brea Residency, the selected pieces portray friends, colleagues as well as people that he has had an interest in. Through these expressive renderings that sometimes only suggest the traditional head and shoulders format, Olsen questions the way we define an individual and the way we distinguish certain features. Varying from almost photographic representations to abstract layering of brush strokes, the Canadian-born artist aims to comment both on the ways people tend to present themselves and recognize others.
