Coming up on July 11th, Shawn Huckins (featured) will opening a solo show at Modernism Gallery in San Francisco. Entitled Fool’s Gold, the exhibition will feature 18 works from the Denver-based artist’s The Erasures seriesreplicated paintings from The White House Art Collection with seemingly randomly painted erasure marks superimposed over top – the familiar gray and white checkered pattern signifies a software’s ‘eraser’ tool has removed the underlying image. Continuing Huckins’ practice of overlaying familiar elements of the modern age over traditional paintings, the new collection of acrylic on canvas pieces deals with the fragility of legacy and asks the question, in this age of “fake news”, whether one person can easily remove or alter the impact of other historical figures before them.
