Showing: Yayoi Kusama – “With All My Love For The Tulips, I Pray Forever (2011)” @ Marciano Art Foundation

For Angeleno’s who missed Yayoi Kusuma’s turn at The Broad (covered) last year, here is your second chance. With All My Love For The Tulips, I Pray Forever (2011) features the Japanese artist’s penchant for polka dots in an immersive installation with large fiberglass-reinforced plastic tulips surrounded by floor-to-ceiling red dots. Ranging from over 7 to almost 10 feet tall, the three oversized flowers reinforces the illusion that the viewer has shrunk down to miniature size, an effect amplified by the repeating dots. Showing: Yayoi Kusama – “Pumpkins” @ Victoria Miro

Currently showing in London at Victorio Miro, Pumpkins from Yayoi Kusuma is an exhibition that features one of her most famous motifs. The celebration of the fruit in question was approached from different angles by Kusama, utilizing her various skill sets – paintings, large mosaic sculptures inside the gallery, and bronzes in the water garden. Despite the familiarity of the iconic subject matter for the Japanese artist, the bronzes do represent the first time she has worked in that medium on such a large scale and they alone are […]

Streets: Yayoi Kusama – New York (Part II)

After sharing one public arts project in New York from Yayoi Kusama with you earlier this week (here), we now turn our attention to the collaboration with Louis Vuitton on a fashion line entitled Infinitely Kusama. The artist’s renowned spots and vegetation tentacles currently adorn LV’s flagship store on the corner of 5th Ave. Similar to Takashi Murakami, whose Multicolore motif wrapped the retail space in 2008, Yayoi’s circles adorn the the exterior as well as the interior window installation. If you look closer, you may see a startling life like replica of the […]
