Our friends at Art Nerd New York recently invaded Hamburg, Germany for a special group show at Helium Cowboy. The exhibition entitled George Hearts Maria is themed around the tale of forbidden romance between the Prince George of Wales and commoner Maria Fitzherbert. While separated, they each had miniature eyes (of each other) painted so they could stare at them without getting caught by the royal family. Last week, AM attended the much anticipated opening of Futura’s show presented in conjunction with Valmorbida. Held at a sizable Meat Packing district cargo hold, the pop-up exhibition was the perfect location for one of the kings of the street to make a triumphant return to New York City. Just this Saturday night, Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed) returned to New York City to share a new exhibition at the Jonathan LeVine Gallery. This fresh body of work entitled Midnight Reverie features new direction for the LA-based artist that has entranced fans of her innocently seductive paintings. Steve “ESPO” Powers’ (featured) recently opened a solo show in New York for the first time in seven years and it was a doozy. As mentioned in our studio visit (here & here), this new body of work entitled A Word is Worth A Thousand Pictures was fresh and to the point in a manner that is simply ESPO-esqe. As promised, AM visited Futura for a behind the scene’s look at upcoming his monster show in New York City.
