A couple of nights ago, we headed over to the Pasadena Museum of California Art (PMCA) to check out two show openings. One was Street Cred (covered), and the other was Inside Out from the renowned Clayton Brothers (featured). As we mentioned in our article documenting RETNA (featured) painting the side of the Pasadena Museum of California Art (PMCA), tonight marks the opening of Street Cred, an exhibition featuring a LA-centric roster of graffiti and street artists (as well as fine artists who have street influences in their past). On May 14th (4-6pm), New York will be treated to a new show from Aron Wiesenfeld including both oil and graphite works. The San Diego-based artist’s second solo at Arcadia Fine Arts will feature emotive renderings of his young characters traversing desolate landscapes (snow and water seem to appear a lot in this set of works) all infused with his superior storytelling and mastery of light. There will be an interesting pairing of artists tomorrow night at the Shows & Tell Gallery in Toronto with a new exhibition entitled Double Rainbow Rainbow opening. Jen Stark, who is known for her intricately beautiful paper cuttings will be showing alongside NYC-based Maya Hayuk. Both have shown their mastery in working with colorful patterns – Stark in the three-dimensional and Hayuk in paintings. Anish Kapoor – “Leviathan” @ Grand Palais (Paris)

Anish Kapoor, who recently returned to India to open his first solo exhibition there, has now traveled to Paris, the site of his first ever exhibition 30 years ago, to unveil Leviathan. The 35 meter tall work made from PVC is 13,500 square meters when inflated, forming a cathedral-like space inside (which viewers can enter) creating the illusion of being inside a giant whale. It looks like Newcastle-based Hush’s (interviewed) will be returning (see 2009) to Los Angeles for another solo show on May 21st, this time at New Image Art. Judging from the photos, his work is becoming increasingly more intricate and textured; something that was evident in his NY show last year (covered). Steve Powers aka ESPO has had a busy few weeks. First, came his part in the time-consuming Street Market installation at the MOCA for the historic Art in the Streets exhibition. Then, last Friday in Copenhagen, he opened his latest solo show at the V1 Gallery entitled simply Days.
