Teaser: “New Moon” @ Myplasticheart

On February 11th, about a week after Chinese new year, myplasticheart in New York will open their doors to New Moon, a group exhibition featuring reinterpretations of the Chinese zodiac. Artists like Amy Sol (interviewed) had many choices (she chose the dragon), considering that there are twelve animals in all – rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, ram, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig. Teaser: Mark Dean Veca C.O.L.A. Fellowship Exhibition

Oh Yeah!  Here is a little teaser for the upcoming C.O.L.A. Fellowship exhibition in May at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery. Each year the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) awards Individual Artist Fellowships to thirteen exemplary midcareer visual, performing and literary artists and our friend Mark Dean Veca’s (interviewed) was chosen as one of the recipients. Streets: Phlegm (Rotherham)

UK street artist Phlegm recently painted this new piece, Whale of a Time, at the Riverside car park in Rotherham. Already damaged by the rain, the mural will be replaced in about a month and he also plans to paint a giant squid and another boat. More views after the jump…

Teaser: POW WOW (Hawaii)

Coming up in February, after it’s debut in Hong Kong last year, the second annual POW WOW will make it’s appearance in Hawaii. The event, which will feature live art, is the brainchild of Jasper Wong (Above Second), is a gathering of creative minds including artists 123Klan, Jeff Hamada, Meggs, Will Barras, and Wu Yue along with local artists Jesico Serrano, Kamea Hadar, and Prime. Streets: LUDO (Paris)

Parisian street artist LUDO (interviewed) continues to defend his home turf with another piece in the City of Lights, this time in the middle of the main thoroughfare,  Champs-Elysees. Openings: Erik Sandberg – “Get Pretty Now” @ Jonathan LeVine Gallery

Looks like Erik Sandberg’s hairy children are all grown up. His show Get Pretty Now opened alongside Ray Caesar’s solo (covered) at Jonathan LeVine Gallery last weekend featuring his colorful creatures created through his special mixed media technique. As you will see, his new body of work looks more mature and rich in content as well as some pieces taking his imagery in a new direction. More opening pics after the jump…

Teaser: Adam Wallacavage @ Choque Cultural (Brazil)

So, it looks like Adam Wallacavage is hard at work setting up for his show in Sao Paulo, Brazil at Choque Cultural. Here you can see the gallery from the back with one of his signature octopi chandeliers ready to go. Make sure you check out a studio visit and interview that our friends at Hi-Fructose conducted with the Philadelphia-based artist to catch more glimpses of the fantastic sculptural pieces he has in store for this show. London-based artist INSA recently recently paid San Francisco a visit and threw up a mural featuring his signature imagery. The man with a love for heels is in town getting ready for his show More at Fifty24SF, which is slated to open on February 3rd. LA Art Show: Murals from Andrew Hem, Chor Boogie, and Shark Toof

For several days while the Los Angeles Art Show was in town, Andrew Hem’s (interviewed), Chor Boogie, and Shark Toof were hard at work working on some large mural pieces. Interested attendees were treated to some extended live painting as each artist worked on some signature imagery for their enjoyment.
