Streets: Slinkachu – “The Last Resort”

Miniature photographer Slinkachu recently posted up a new street installation on his blog entitled The Last Resort. This piece is the first of many in a new body of work he is preparing for his solo Concrete Ocean at Andipa Gallery coming up in March. This will be his second show at the London gallery and if his last show there was any indication, fans will be treated to an intriguing mixture of new images and installations. This Saturday night, January 29th, Corey Helford Gallery will be hosting the “In The Nursery” group exhibition featuring reinterpretation of classic American nursery art. The artists involved are hail from diverse genre’s of art including Aiko, Tom Bagshaw, Scott G. After bringing you a glimpse (when Murakami visited) of the inaugural show at the Gagosian in Hong Kong, the gallery has sent us a more detailed look at the installation of the show and views of the spacious interior. Forgotten Promises includes some favorites and some newer works from Damien Hirst such as stunning photorealistic oil paintings of butterflies, diamond cabinets, the much talked about diamond encrusted baby skull, and much more. Last Saturday night, “The Big Picture” opened at Subliminal Projects featuring the work of DEVO frontman Mark Mothersbaugh and Shepard Fairey’s (featured). An art fair based on an interesting premise opened this weekend – the VIP Art Fair. As online sales have increased when compared to in-person sales at most galleries, it was only natural that a virtual art fair be the next “big idea”. Art Stage Singapore, a new international art fair opened and closed last week with reports of strong sales, 32,000 visitors, and work shown by 121 galleries from 26 countries. The art world will be seeing more events like these in the region as Asia grows in importance.
