Streets: Shepard Fairey Mural – “These Parties Disgust Me” for Deitch Projects

The Shepard Fairey’s (featured) mural on Bowery & Houston that we first teased here looks to be pretty much finished. Entitled “These Parties Disgust Me”, the piece is about the dysfunction of the two-party political system in Washington and also about encouraging activism. The famous location, hosted by Deitch Projects, was recently the site of an amazing Os Gemeos mural, but now is home to the new Obey mural in preparation for the opening of the “May Day” show opening on May 1st. Check out […]

Teaser: Chloe Early @ Corey Helford Gallery

The last we saw Chloe Early (interviewed), she had just opened her solo show, “Clouded Apollo”, last November in the UK. Now, it looks like she has started working on her next show slated to open in October at the Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles. We’ll have more as the show gets nearer, but for now, take a look at this in progress piece… Discuss Chloe Early here.

Preview: Mark Ryden – “The Gay 90’s: Old Tyme Art Show” @ Paul Kasmin Gallery

Ever since we saw the first stunning painting at Art Basel for Mark Ryden’s upcoming show, we have had the date, April 29th, marked down on our calendars. Subsequent peeks at a timelapse of that piece, “Incarnation” and a look at one of the most beautiful show invites ever have only served to increase our artlust even more. And now, it appears some preview images have leaked for the show opening next week at Paul Kasmin Galley in New York which have pushed expectations of […]

FAME Festival ’10: Swoon

Well, shortly after announcing their lineup for 2010, this year’s FAME Festival is already underway. First to arrive were Swoon (interviewed) and Ben Wolf to participate in this annual Italian celebration of street art (take a look at our coverage of the 2009 event here). Unfortunately, Wolf’s work was destroyed before it was photographed but here are some photos of Swoon pasting up an old chapel as well as other parts of town. More images after the jump.

Preview: Souther Salazar Installation for Fumetto Festival

Souther Salazar recently put together a pretty dope installation piece for the upcoming Fumetto Festival in Switzerland (with an assist from Monica Choy). As you can see from his other installs for recent shows in New York & Los Angeles, Souther is quite skilled at creating these whimsical mixed media pieces that seem to jump straight out of one of his paintings. The exhibition will be Souther’s first solo in Europe and will feature larger paintings, comics, sculptures and drawings displayed along with “Alejandro”! More […]

French photographer and activist JR will be opening his first show in Germany soon at the newly opened Gallery Springmann.Varol (formed with AM contributor Selim Varol) in Duesseldorf. The exhibition will be another showing of JR’s project, “Women Are Heroes”, (previously seen in Paris and London), which is also the subject of his film recently nominated for the Golden Camera at the Cannes Festival. From what we hear, the famed street photographer will be preparing a sick wall installation of 128 of his signature “speaker-eyes” […]

Showing: Anthony Lister – “You Call That a Back Rub..” @ Metro Gallery

Anthony Lister’s (interviewed) delightfully twisted view of superheroes has been on full display the last several weeks in Melbourne at the Metro Gallery. The show “You Call That a Back Rub..”, which closes tomorrow (April 18th), featured the Australian artists signature abstractionism of our favorite comic book characters, sculptures, and of course, a little performance art just like his show in NY (showing concurrently). More images after the jump, courtesy of Nice Produce.
