Since his show in Paris, Roa has been busy putting new work, mostly in Belgium. With each new piece, he further affirms his mastery of the art of proper placement. Not only that, he creatively incorporates elements of the location into his work and elevates typical two-dimensional street art with three-dimensional twists. New York native Justin BUA, whom we recently met at the “Who Killed The Music” Grammy Art Show”, will be opening his solo show (both old and new works) at the Pop International Gallery on Thursday, March 25. Justin, who is currently teaching at USC, takes inspiration from urban culture and in particular the Harlem Renaissance. Looks like the German street tagteam of Various & Gould have been out and about pasting up art on the streets around the Brooklynite Gallery where they opened a show last week (previewed). A while back, we posted a preview of Andrew Schoultz’s solo in Italy at the Jerome Zodo Contemporary. Well, he has kindly sent us some images of the incredible installation he has put together at the Milan Gallery that opened on the March 11th and runs through the end of April, including large murals, crumbling walls, telephone poles and wires – just an all encompassing experience. Proving that tensions between graffiti artists and street artists are not just a phenomena of the western world (see banksy vs. robbo), Pixacao artists in Sao Paulo have defaced a mural by Os Gemeos, NUNCA, NINA, Finok, and Zefix. They are probably angry that the mayor of Sao Paulo, after creating the project “Clean City” in 2006 (which erased much of the illegal graffiti) is using public funds for commissioning legal writers and famous street artists. Openings: Anthony Lister – “How to Catch a Time Traveler” @ Lyons Wier Gallery

Anthony Lister (interviewed) opened his latest solo show in New York at the Lyons Wier Gallery last night. In attendance were his usual tied up superheroes, this time with one hanging upside down from the ceiling. As evident by the artwork, Lister continues to explore his fascination with superheroes through paintings, drawings, custom action figures, and sculptures. More pics after the jump…

Preview: Dan May – “Beneath the Noise” @ Rotofugi

Opening tonight at Rotofugi is a new body of work from Dan May (interviewed). “Beneath the Noise” features some nice size pieces like “Bittersweet Departure” (seen above) sized at 18 x 18″ as well as some affordable smaller pieces. It also looks like Dan is continuing to incorporate the human form into his imagery with his usual stunning attention to detail and color. See some pics of the install after the jump…

Studio Visits: Lola

Opening next Saturday, March 27th in Culver City will be Lola’s newest solo show – “Ipsum Factum” (teased) at the Corey Helford Gallery. AM lucky enough to be able to stop by her studio a while back to check on the progress on this new body of work.
