Teaser: Greg Simkins @ Joshua Liner Gallery

We at AM are already looking forward to Greg “Craola” Simkins (featured) solo show this summer after seeing a taste of what’s to come. Expected to fill both rooms of Joshua Liner gallery come June, we can only salivate thinking about the monster body of work that Greg is working. We’ll have more to follow as the show draws closer but perhaps this commission he did recently for Everlast can whet your appetite. Discuss Craola here.

Openings: Yoshitaka Amano – “Deva Loka : Los Angeles” @ LeBasse Projects

Yoshitaka Amano’s “Deva Loka : Los Angeles” show (previewed) opened this past weekend at LeBasse Projects. Not surprisingly, the cosplay (also seen here & here) fans were out in full force for the japanese artist who is famous for his work in Vampire Hunter D and the Final Fantasy video games. His work takes younger fans of current Japanese art back to some of its recent roots as you can definitely see how his paintings have influenced artists such as Mariko Mori, Takashi Murakami and […]

Saturday night was the opening of Robert Williams’ traveling solo show at the Cal State University Northridge Gallery. We originally covered the exhibition in New York, but the second time around was no less stunning. Bringing with him a massive body of work including paintings, sculptures, drawings, comic book covers, and and specially designed wallpaper, the “godfather” delighted his fans in the greater Los Angeles area with his conceptual genius and flawless execution. Check out the our opening pics after the jump and make sure […]

Streets: Roa in Paris

Belgium-based street artist Roa continues his assault on decrepit buildings and infrastructure with some new work from Paris, possibly done when he was in town for his show at Galerie Itinerrance. As usual, many of his pieces are created in such a way to playfully interact with all the nooks and crannies at his carefully selected sites. More images on Unurth and after the jump…

Opening tonight in the main gallery space of LeBasse Projects is “Deva Loka Los Angeles”, a new body of work from Japanese artist Yoshitaka Amano. For anime fans out there, you may recognize his work from Vampire Hunter D and for the video game aficionados, you must know of his character designs for Final Fantasy. This show, named after the ancient Indian land of God, will be a ode to his childhood love for American comics, culture, and automobiles. As a bonus, Yoskay Yamamoto (interviewed) […]

Streets: Swoon

It looks like Swoon (Interviewed) recently visited Philadelphia and gifted the city of brotherly love with some of her street pieces. In town for Philagrafika 2010, the city’s international festival celebrating print in contemporary art, Swoon’s wheatpastes blended in nicely with the snowy landscape. A good time to be in Philly with ESPO’s epic “A Love Letter For You” project also available for viewing. More photos via the Street Spot after the jump…

Showing: Miss Van – “She-Wolves” @ Merry Karnowsky

One the most well-known and celebrated female street artists, Miss Van, recently opened her show “She-Wolves” (previewed) at Merry Karnowsky Gallery in Los Angeles.  This new body of work featured the French artist’s signature “poupes” dressed up in animal attire although she seems to have taken it a step further with some of the characters possessing some very real mammary glands, demonstrated vividly in the amazing painting seen above (to the right). Strong images match an equally strong feminine strength that is typically evident in […]
