Openings: Angelika Trojnarski – “After the Gold Rush” @ Kinsey/Desforges

We stopped by the Kinsey/Desforges Gallery in Culver City a couple weeks ago on a night of chock full of openings. On the walls were new works from Angelika Trojnarski, a Polish contemporary artist, back for her second show with the gallery. Entitled “After the Gold Rush,” the show featured paintings and abstract structures as well as sculptural representations of deconstructed buildings made from found materials. Check out all the pics after the jump.

Update: Stella Im Hultberg

Looks like Stella Im Hultberg (interviewed) has been working through some ideas recently for her upcoming show “Penumbra” alongside Amy Sol (teased) in November at Copro Gallery. Stella’s versatile showing at Thinkspace Gallery in July left her many options to pursue, but this new show, tentatively speaking, will probably focus on works on paper and perhaps wood. Also, as if Stella and Amy weren’t enough, Nicoletta Ceccoli (interviewed) will be showing concurrently with them. More images from Stella and showcard after the jump…

Openings: C215 @ Galerie Pierre Cardin

Prolific French street artist C215 (Christian Guémy) recently opened a show at Galerie Pierre Cardin in Paris, returning to his roots after showing in the UK at the Signal Gallery (covered) and at a special collaborative project at the old Bridewell Police Station. Included in the exhibition are his signature stencils featuring portraiture of people of the streets – the homeless, beggars, orphans, animals, and victims of neglect.  The body of work includes pieces on wood, paper, and found objects and conveyed a versatility of […]

Preview: Michael Lau – “Gardener 10th” @ De La Barracuda

When one thinks of Michael Lau, one thinks of the “godfather of vinyl” or the originator of the “art toy.”  Without his innovation and hard work long ago, we would not have many of the art-related figures and projects we cover and collect from artists we love today.  His epic show “Gardener 10th” opening at De La Barracuda tonight not only chronicles the 10 year history of his “Gardener” line but will also have much of the related artwork and sketches on display (and of […]

Video: Art Forum Berlin (2009)

Here is a a quick walk-through by Vernissage TV of Berlin’s big art fair – Art Forum – that ended last weekend. We already bought you a taste of Futura (covered) and Herakut’s (covered) participation in this week of art festivities for the Germans, which only makes us look forward to this year’s Art Basel in Miami even more…

Video: Blu Mural @ Deitch Studios

Apparently, Blu is already hard at work again after finishing his time-intensive “graffiti animation” video “Combo” collaboration with David Ellis for this year’s Fame Festival. This time, he’s in NY, for a large mural at Deitch Studios. I guess Deitch is in a generous mood since they just commissioned Os Gemeos for a mural not long ago. Some pics after the jump…

Teaser: Pop Life @ Tate Modern

A pretty major exhibition, “Pop Life,” is opening this week (October 1st) at the Tate Modern. The exhibition will take Andy Warhol’s famous quote “good business is the best art” as its slogan and re-examine how Warhol and legacy of “Pop Art” has influenced artists in the ways they harnass mass media to promote and create an image for themselves. Among the artists represented will be Tracey Emin, Keith Haring, Damien Hirst (video of his search for identical twins for this exhibition after the jump), […]

Preview: Melissa Forman – “Garden of Shadows” @ Corey Helford Gallery

Next weekend, Melissa Forman will be bringing her evocative portraiture to Corey Helford Gallery with her new body of work “Garden of Shadows.” Some of her paintings seem to be of the modern women yet give off a classical feeling – perhaps because of the poses and the clothing of the long ago Victorian era.  The centerpiece of the exhibition will be four “personified portraits of medieval medicine’s bodily humours (Purity, Vexation, Reluctance and Melancholia).”  The show opens on  October 3rd so be sure to […]
