Camille Rose Garcia x “Alice in Wonderland” Book

We thought we would share some images of an illustrated “Alice in Wonderland” book that Camille Rose Garcia is working on with Harper/Collins. We can’t wait to see the signature twists she introduces into this project – who wants to see her Mad Hatter, raise your hand! She must be busy at the moment as she’s also prepping for her solo at Merry Karnowsky (teased) come September. Look for more opportunities to meet Camille as there should be an associated signing tour tentatively scheduled around […]

Streets: Aiko

Looks like last weekend in Brooklyn, Aiko put up a mural at the Williamsburg Music Center on Bedford Ave & South 5th.  Some of the classic imagery that was on display at her last solo at Joshua Liner Gallery was replicated nicely at this busy location.  Check out more of the images she posted up on her blog after the jump…

Walrus TV: D*Face Interview

Walrus TV has released another excellent video recently.  This time, they feature a revealing interview with D*Face, where he talks about how it all started for him.  Haven’t seen a large body of work from him in a while since his Black Rat Press show and Hong Kong show last year, so this video will have to tide you over until his next solo in September at Jonathan LeVine Gallery. Discuss D*Face here.

Teaser: Sylvia Ji – “Nectar” @ StolenSpace & Box Set

Looks like Sylvia Ji (interviewed) is in the midst of preparing for her first solo show in the UK entitled “Nectar” set to open on September 3rd at StolenSpace.  She posted up a shot of her studio with some in progress works recently on her blog, where she also revealed a print set project she’s been working on. Preliminary plans include an wooden box laser etched on top with 4 prints inside as an edition of 50.  Take a peek a look at the boxset […]

Interviews: Michael Page – “ThankYouGoodbye” @ Varnish Fine Arts

Michael Page’s newest show, “ThankYouGoodbye” (teased), features a body of work inspired by climate change in places like Greenland and Alaska. Sadly, his show that opened at Varnish Fine Art in SF over the weekend will be the last in this space for the gallery. We had a chance to sit down for an interview with Page to talk about the new direction his work is going among other things. Interview after the jump…

Streets: BAST

Although BAST seems to be experimenting with a new technique for some pieces in “Beach Blanket Bingo” summer group show at Jonathan Levine Gallery (pics coming soon), nothing reminds us more of his genius then seeing some classic pieces in the streets.  Looks like he’s in another group show in Paris next month, but for now, take a look at some of these photos that Sabeth718 took around Brooklyn of some new pasteups including the one above with the perfect placement. More after the jump…

Preview: Bob Dob – “Black Eyed Mouseketeers” @ Perihelion Arts

Looks like these mouseketeer buddies of Bob Dob were on the wrong side of a beat down.  He did ten variants on this theme for his show “Black Eyed Mouseketeers” opening at Perihelion Arts in Phoenix tomorrow night.  Of course, he had to include the little devil “Luey” in the mix as well.  See him and some more of the images after the jump…

Showing: Nicoletta Ceccoli – “Beauties and Beasts” & Eric Fortune – “Daughters of our Nature” @ Roq La Rue

Two artists whose work we enjoy immensely, Nicoletta Ceccoli (interviewed) & Eric Fortune (interviewed) opened up their joint show a couple weekends ago at Roq La Rue.  Ceccoli’s delicate attention to detail in and her clever juxtaposition of humans and nature (above) along with Fortune’s patient brushwork and mastery of textures/motions were on full display.  If you are lucky enough to be in the Seattle area, definitely take this opportunity to check out not one but two extraordinary artists. See some closer views after the […]

Teaser: Brendan Monroe @ Richard Heller Gallery

Brendan Monroe (interviewed) will be exhibiting some new works in October at the Richard Heller Gallery in Santa Monica. We were able to get a glimpse of some of the things he was working on when we went by for a studio visit a couple months ago, but here is a new image of one of the sculptural elements in this new body of work.  More to follow as the show draws nearer… Discuss Brendan Monroe here.

Teaser: Edwin Ushiro – “Softly Encompassing the Womb”

Here’s a pretty sweet piece from Hawaii native Edwin Ushiro’s upcoming show opening September 12th at LeBasse Projects. Two things that stand out about Ushiro’s work are the special “look” he has to his work that is a result of a special process he uses (more on this at a later time) and his talent of storytelling – something he talks about in this a thousand stories interview. We are looking forward to seeing more “island” infused imagery and are planning more coverage of this […]
