The Louis Vuitton flagship store on 5th Avenue in New York City recently received the Stephen Sprouse treatment. The window displays feature neon light installations of Sprouse;s trademark Rose motif to showcase the launch of the brand’s Spring 2009 collection which pays homage to the late fashion designer and artist. AM was in attendance Saturday night for the opening of Italian street artist Ericailcane’s first Los Angeles solo show entitled “Man is the Bastard” (previewed) at Carmichael Gallery. Thinkspace and Ad Hoc Art pulled out all the stops for the opening of “From the Streets of Brooklyn” (teased and previewed) and Los Angeles was out in full force, packing the gallery to the brim to scope out the work from Brooklyn’s best graf writers, wheatpasters, muralists, and stencilers. Italian street artist Ericailcane starts off the New Year with his first Los Angeles solo exhibition, “Man Is The Bastard,” opening 7pm tonight at the Carmichael Gallery. Brooklyn chalk artist extraordinaire Ellis G. went to town on Santa Monica Blvd. last night as part of “From the Streets of Brooklyn” (teased and previewed) opening 7pm tonight at Thinkspace. His chalk etchings capture the shadows of everyday street objects and their surrounding environment. Anything that casts a shadow is fair game: bikes, fences, lightposts, and even full city blocks. Ellis G’s former graffiti writing background is apparent in the precise execution of his work. His lines are clean, performed with long, confident pulls. […]

Last night marked the opening of Yoshitomo Nara’s solo show at Blum & Poe (previewed and teased). The show features a large scale sculptural installation, and a new series of paintings and drawings focusing on Nara’s signature pastel-hued girls. At the center of the exhibition was a prairie-style wagon installation by YNG, a collaboration between Yoshitomo Nara and Japanese design firm Graf.
