Streets: D*Face in Pisa

We love the way that UK artist D*Face combines a healthy mix of pop art with street art, and these pictures of some of his latest outdoor work are no exception. D*Face was recently invited out to Italy by Rate Civic Pisano – Pisa Town Council – to paint a mural dedicated to Keith Haring, who was commissioned by the town to paint his rare “permanent” mural “Tuttomondo” in the city exactly 20 years ago. On our recent trip to Denver to see Josh Keyes’ “Sprout” exhibition, AM met with Jason Thielke, who’s latest solo show entitled simply “New Works” opens this Friday, July 17th at the new downtown location of the David B. Smith Gallery. All of us here at AM are big fans of Josh Keyes’ work, and after our recent trip to Denver for the opening of his latest solo show “Sprout” at David B. Black Rat Press‘ stunning lighting rig came into its own this past Thursday when the new three-person show “Ways of Seeing” opened. Featuring new work from Swoon (interviewed), Brian Adam Douglas a.k.a. Elbow-Toe (interviewed) and Matt Small (interviewed), the vibrancy and luminosity of the colors of Douglas’ and Small’s work was really highlighted by the controlled approach to lighting against the brickwork backdrop of the gallery.Â More after the jump…

StolenSpace shows always attract a good crowd and last week’s opening of their annual “Summer Group Show” was no exception. London was basking in a serious heatwave last week and the ice cold Tiger Beer was a welcome relief from the heat for the AM contingent attending the show. Portuguese street artist Vhils opened his first UK solo show “Scratching The Surface” last night to a packed house at Lazarides Rathbone Place. Vhils employed various mediums and techniques for his amazing portraiture pieces in the show, including stencils, collage and even a few relief pieces like the ones we saw in the video he released a couple of months ago, except this time he used acid and bleach instead of a hammer and chisel.
