Openings: “KAWS: WHAT PARTY” @ Brooklyn Museum

Tonight in New York, the Brooklyn Museum opened KAWS: WHAT PARTY to the public, featuring more than 100 works including drawings, paintings, sculptures, smaller collectibles, furniture, and larger-than-life COMPANION figures. The comprehensive exhibition is surprisingly the Brooklyn-based artist’s first major museum survey in New York, touching on the highlights of his 25 year career from his early rarely seen graffiti drawings and notebooks, to examples his now famous xx-eyed characters painted on fashion ads in phone booths and bus shelters, to the continuation of this figurative work into the fine […]

Releases: Perrier x Murakami

Continuing their longstanding support for the arts, PERRIER recently collaborated with Takashi Murakami on a range of new bottles. Some of the Japanese artist’s signature motifs – his smiling flowers and kaikai kiki characters – are contrasted nicely against the classic green bottles from the French mineral water brand. Murakami further explains – “When PERRIER® first approached me, I felt extremely lucky to have the opportunity to collaborate with this sparkling water brand with such a long history. It held many positive associations for me – for example, […]

Releases: Faith XLVII x Hennessy – VS Cognac Bottle

Following in the footsteps of a long line of artists who have collaborated with Hennessy on their VS Cognac Bottle, Faith XLVII recently unveiled her contribution to the project. As the first female voice to join the Limited Editions series, the South African artist took inspiration from ancient alchemical manuscripts, sundials and calendars with a design that speaks to the seasons and the cyclical order of planetary movements. Take a look at the video below to hear more of her thoughts behind the collaboration… Discuss Faith47 here.

BLM / Releases: KAWS – “TAKE” Figures

Tomorrow (July 9th) at 12 noon EST, KAWS will be releasing a new set of vinyl figures modeled after another combination of his Companion and BFF characters. Entitled TAKE, the three iterations are smaller versions of the sculpture introduced at his London exhibition last year (covered). A portion of the proceeds (goal of $250,000) will be split among Black Lives Matter and Color Of Change. Because of this added fundraising component, the NY-based artist has also added a few pieces from his personal inventory as well […]

BLM: Haroshi x HUF

Unfortunately, the looting that happened in Los Angeles did not leave artwork unscathed in certain locations. The iconic Haroshi (featured) middle finger sculpture that stood as the centerpiece at the HUF store since 2015 was damaged in the chaos of that weekend. The piece created from skateboard decks, as is the usual practice by the Japanese artist, has always stood as symbol of “fuck you” – a FU to “oppressors, to injustice, to violence, to racism, to authority, to inequality, and to anyone or anything working […]

Update: Greg “Craola” Simkins – “Rabbit Season”

Recently, Greg “Craola” Simkins (featured) revealed a series of works he created centered around “ushers between worlds for day dreamers and wandering souls alike.” He was of course referring to the bunnies in his new Rabbit Season pieces, a look at what would have happened if a rabbit had taken the place of Mickey Mouse in Disney’s world. Along with the new paintings, the LA-based artist has also released a collection of clothing based on the new imagery. He further explains – “I have been a huge […]

Releases: Tristan Eaton – “New Money” Dunny

Returning to reinvent the ubiquitous Dunny whose form he designed 15 years ago for Kidrobot, Tristan Eaton has created the first metal version of the collectible. Entitled New Money, the new chrome finished 5 inch figure features the LA-based artist’s patchwork aesthetic while poking fun at the bling-bling culture. He further explains – “it’s really about sarcastically hyping up the bling of it, you know. Kind of bringing together all these bling stereotypes in a way. There’s gold chains in there, gold teeth…  you know, all those elements of […]

Showing: Banksy – ‘Gross Domestic Product’ (Greater London)

Unless required for work or family reasons, many Londoners balk at the prospect of journeying to the other side of their city. Localism or laziness are often at play. So if you ever wish to check the status of your relationship with a Londoner, there’s a simple test we believe is about 50% reliable: In case that person is based in West London, suggest meeting up for drinks in East London (or vice versa). And if they live north of the River Thames, invite them […]
