Sketchbook: Josh Keyes – “Fragment”

Following up on a great opening at JLG, Josh Keyes posted up some additional photos of his creative process for the creation of his newest body of work “Fragment” – (covered). The images allow us to gain some access into the meticulous thought process Josh goes through before ever laying a brush on canvas. It’s incredibly insightful to see the all the notes and sketches that lead to the creation of many of the pieces that we saw at the show. We also note some of the […]

Openings: Ericailcane / Will Barras / DEM – “Original Cultures” @ StolenSpace

StolenSpace’s official start to 2010 has arrived in the shape of “Original Culture” featuring an Anglo-Italian line up of Ericailcane, DEM and Will Barras. Will Barras was at the opening this Thursday night, and his element of the show consisted of a series of stunning and poignant works painted in situ. Openings: The Faile Bast Deluxx Fluxx Arcade at Lazarides – Greek Street

London art fans turned out this Thursday night to witness the most simultaneously fun and original show we’ve witnessed since, well, probably ever! The “Faile Bast Deluxx Fluxx Arcade” is in town and after a week of installation time, is now officially open for business! Faile (aka: the Patricks) and Bast transformed the ground floor into a fully functioning video game arcade, with old school cabinets – some of which we recognized from our misspent youth – being given the paste-up treatment. Read on for more details and pictures […]

Openings: Ryan McGinness – “Studio Franchise @ Cultural Center of Casa Encendida (Madrid)

Last week, Ryan McGinness (featured) had an opening in Madrid’s Casa Encendida. The show “Studio Franchise” was not only the NYC artist’s classic works, but also a glimpse into his studio. Ryan replicated his studio in a giant installation to give art goers an idea of how he came to create some of his gems. We can atteste it looked very similar to his actual studio when we visited it for his 50 Parties auction (here). We also saw Banksy and Audrey Kawasaki give their […]

Photographer extraordinaire, s.butterfly, had some time to visit the auction sites for Sotheby’s and Christie’s to take some pics of some choice items that may be of some interest you like the Banksy’s seen above. More images after the jump…

Todd Selby Visits Mr.’s Studio and Home

Our friends at TWBE let us know about photographer Todd Selby’s latest photo-documentation of artists within their spaces, this time with Mr., one of Takashi Murakami’s protégés. Selby had a chance to photograph the eccentric Japanese artist in his studio and home outside of Tokyo. Obviously, Mr.’s fascination with anime and manga is not contained to his art, as he surrounds himself with illustrated books, posters, and pillows, both at work and at home. In addition, Selby captures other intriguing images, such as production sketches […]

Art Los Angeles Contemporary ’10 – Regen Projects & Galerie Klosterfelde

Los Angeles’s own Regen Projects shared a single room with Galerie Klosterfelde from Berlin at the Art Los Angeles Contemporary fair.  The two galleries brought out fantastic pieces from their stable of superstars, including a cluster of drawings by Raymond Pettibon (pictured above), photos by Wolfgang Tillmans from his Lighter series, a Matthew Barney piece, drawings and a window piece by Lawrence Weiner, a spectacular Lari Pittman painting, a large Catherine Opie photo, and sculptures by the always-challenging German artist John Bock.
