Teaser: “In The Nursery” @ Corey Helford Gallery

It looks like Ray Caesar will be part of a group of artists participating in the upcoming “In The Nursery” group show at Corey Helford Gallery. All the work in the show, like this exquisite piece (seen above) from the master of the digital arts, will focus on the themes of childhood, birth, and nursery art. We’ll have a preview for you soon but in the meantime, take a look at the artist list after the jump…

Handmade Audrey Kawasaki Plushes

Take a look at these nice homemade plushes from Audrey Kawasaki (interviewed) that she posted on her English blog recently. She made her new hobby known a little while back but has definitely upped her game recently by including her own artwork. Perhaps she should start her own line like Camille Rose Garcia? Take a look at different views as well as the creation process after the jump…

Teaser: Luke Chueh – “Contemptorary Art” @ Corey Helford Gallery

Luke Chueh’s (interviewed) upcoming show at Corey Helford in February is shaping up to be an interesting affair. Not only will a large-scale Possessed sculpture hopefully be revealed, but he’ll be taking his work in a new direction for the solo, aptly named Contemptorary Art [sic]. The show is Luke’s unique take on contemporary art which we got a taste of this with the painting seen above, Label Series – Lowbrow (and Still the Loser), that we saw at Art Basel Week which is inspired […]

Sketchbook: Yoskay Yamamoto (Part II)

We continue our look at artists’ sketchbooks with a peek at Yoskay Yamamoto’s (featured) recent efforts.  You may remember that we had brought you a glance through his sketches almost a year ago.  In fact, Yoskay was one of our first sketchbook features.  He most recently showed some work at Roq La Rue (covered) where the tried a new medium – paintings on paper – we’ll see if this continues in 2011. More pics after the jump…

Releases: Mark Ryden – “Yoshi – The Forest Spirit” Poster

It looks as though there will be a new release from Mark Ryden, a reproduction of his painting Yoshi – The Forest Spirit, based on a painting seen at Art Basel Miami at the Michael Kohn Gallery booth in 2007. Priced at $250, sized at 19 x 23″, and with a run of 1000, the edition will be available presumably on January 15th from Portherhouse with the proceeds to benefit The Nature Conservancy. Discuss Mark Ryden here.

Sketchbook: Amy Sol

Inspired by some night-time walks by the coastline in the Northwest, Amy Sol (interviewed) recently filled her sketchbook with some night scenery since her last show was at Corey Helford (covered). It remains to be seen whether this translates to actual paintings, which actually would be pretty interesting. We are looking forward to her part in a monster group show towards the end of 2011 at Thinkspace Gallery. More after the jump…

But until then, take a look at the current piece on his easel after the jump from his frequently updated blog.
