AM had a chance to visit the studio of the Clayton Brothers a couple weeks back as they prepared for their first major show in Los Angeles in six years. Stella Im Hultberg (interviewed)Â made her solo return to Los Angeles this past Friday withÂ “Memento Mori” (previewed) at Thinkspace Gallery.Â Greeting patrons as they walked through the door was an impressive mural featuring Stella’s luscious lipped women on a “nature-esque” green backdrop – a small taste of the breathtaking body of work that awaited them. Last night, the “Monster?” group show (previewed) curated by Travis Louie (interviewed), opened at Copro Gallery in Santa Monica to a full house of monster lovers. They weren’t disappointed as artists took creative means to paint and sculpt their versions of of the theme, all the way from hideous vampires and Frankenstein to Charlie Brown and childhood piano teachers. Preview: “Celeritas” @ SURU

Motorcycle culture and fine art come together this Sunday, July 12 with “Celeritas,” a motorcycle culture themed art show for charity, opening at SURU in Los Angeles. The impressive lineup of artists will utilize elements from motorcycle culture as their canvases, including helmets, apparel and a 2009 Suzuki Hayabusa. All proceeds from the show will benefit Riders for Health, a non-profit that funds the transportation of medical personnel to remote communities in Africa. One thing you have to respect about Jeff Soto’s (interviewed) work is his willingness to experiment when it would have been easy to just keep painting robots and other familiar imagery.
