Preview: “Self-Portraits” @ Circle Culture Gallery

AM was lucky enough to get an advance look at what will surely be the most sought after pieces at “Self-Portraits,” Circle Culture Gallery’s latest offering opening tomorrow, Friday, June 5th in Berlin. Seen above is JR’s “Self-Portrait in a Woman’s Eye, Kenya” from the 28 Millimetres series and is a brilliant use of a subject to capture an image of himself. The idea for the show was to approach the historical theme of self-portraits and to bring it into a contemporary art context. See […]

Openings: Mike Davis & Heidi Taillefer @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Last Saturday, the Joshua Liner Gallery hosted the opening of shows by two talented painters, Mike Davis and Heidi Taillefer. Although the two are seemingly very different, the pairing of Davis and Taillefer begins to make perfect sense once one sees the work together. Both artists work in oil, are very technically proficient and could be labeled “pop-surrealists.”  But beyond that, both incorporate their surrealist imagery within more classical styles of painting. Davis is obviously highly influenced by the Dutch Masters, so much so that […]

In fact, some fans started waiting in line as early as 9am. Once inside the gallery, fans could purchase the white/silver koibito, red/white koibito, postcard sets, “Screaming for the Sunrise” giclee prints and show catalogs. This night also marked the closing of Yoskay’s […]

Preview: Tim Biskup – “The Mystic Chords of Memory” @ Iguapop Gallery

Tim Biskup opens his latest solo show “The Mystic Chords of Memory” on June 4th at Iguapop Gallery in Barcelona. The show title, taken from a statement made by Abraham Lincoln during his first inaugural address, represents the newfound focus of Biskup’s energies on the positive and have led to the reemergence of a more vibrant pallete and picturesque imagery in his work which is a strong contrast to the muted colors and expressionless figures from Biskup’s “O/S (Operating System)” show last year. See the rest […]

A week before Ron was about to ship this stunning body of work to London, we were invited to his studio where we got to see the various techniques and […]

Preview: Heidi Taillefer & Mike Davis @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Here’s a little preview of two artists which have shows opening at Joshua Liner Gallery next weekend. Both their artistic styles look to stretch the imagination of the viewers and challenge their intellects. Heidi Taillefer’s (above) bizarre yet fantastic paintings throw our senses into a strange world where the nature and science seamlessly integrate. On the other hand, Mike Davis (below) has works that makes us ponder the numerous themes and symbolism that are represented through the subjects and objects that are showcased in his […]
