Signing: Brendan Monroe @ Richard Heller Gallery

Brendan Monroe (interviewed) was in Santa Monica this past Saturday, May 23rd, for a book signing at Richard Heller Gallery. Recently, we had the opportunity see Brendan in the Bay Area at Park Life and also to check out his studio. It was nice to see him in Southern California meeting with fans and taking time to draw in their sketchbooks. Take a look at the pics after the jump.

Preview: Matt Dangler – “Searching for Satori” @ Gallery 1988 SF

Matt Dangler (interviewed) recently sent us a couple preview images from his upcoming solo show “Searching for Satori” opening Friday, May 29th at Gallery 1988’s San Francisco location.  According to Matt, “In Zen Buddhism ‘Satori’ is a spiritual awakening that often comes suddenly. With hopes of reaching and sharing ‘Satori’ – I infuse my own spirituality within my paintings. ‘Searching For Satori’ seemed an adequate title, considering that’s what painting is for me and what I believe should be the viewers motivation as well.” Check […]

Interviews: Mark Brown – The Lost MacGuffin @ Gallery 1988 LA

As we previously covered, Mark Brown’s debut solo The Lost MacGuffin opened up at Gallery 1988 LA with much anticipation and it lived up to the hype. Luckily AM caught up with the busy artist after the opening for his first ever interview to discuss MacGuffin, his artistic style/influences, G.I. JOE characters fighting R2-D2 and of course The Beastmaster. Read the interview after the jump…

Studio Visits: Brendan Monroe

On a recent road trip to the Bay Area, AM took the opportunity to visit the studio of Brendan Monroe (interviewed) that he shares with Evah Fan. Although Brendan was only in the early stages of preparing for his next solo show at Richard Heller Gallery, there were still many items of interest to discuss and see. Brendan walked us through his woodworking area, showed us various in-progress sculptures, enlightened us a little about his mixed-media technique and even showed us their vegetable garden. Surrounded by the […]

Releases: Kozyndan x PUMA Line

An artist duo that we have been following for a long time now, Kozyndan (Kozy & Dan) collaborated with PUMA on a clothing and shoe line a while back. Unfortunately, this turned out to be a Europe-only release and fans in the States never got a chance to snatch some of these items up…  until now. Here is a shot of a window display at the PUMA store on the 3rd St. Promenade in Santa Monica. It appears that other stores will be carrying the line as […]

Openings: Andy Kehoe – “Living Twilight” @ Jonathan Levine Gallery

Andy Kehoe opened his first NYC solo “Living Twilight” at Jonathan Levine Gallery alongside Souther Salazar (covered). Through his style of detailed majestic landscapes and rich autumn hues, Kehoe was able to capture the essence of twilight. We also enjoyed his customary detailed man-beasts isolated in his beautiful serene locations. Kehoe’s “fantasy-esqe” style also gave us a sense of a storybook childhood nostalgia. After the Saturday opening of both shows, AM joined Andy and Souther for the official after-party in classic Levine fashion! Check out the pics and a […]
