First glance at Armory Week: Scope Art Fair

AM kicked off its tour of New York’s Armory Week with a quick stop at Scope Art Fair. We’ll start off with some quick snaps of images that caught our eye that hopefully should inspire anyone near New York to come out and check out this week of amazing art. Enjoy all the photos after the jump.

Preview: Sweet Surrender @ Gallery 1988 SF

We’ve been looking forward to this group show for a while now. Gallery 1988 SF has put together a lineup of 5 young ladies who’s special talent is making us “look” literally. Sweet Surrender features: Camilla d’Errico, Krista Huot, Mia, Allison Torneros, and Jennifer Tong. These talented girls put together what looks to be a great show. AM has an advance peep at this wonderful show that opens March 6th. More after the jump.

Studio Visits: Todd Schorr

AM had the honor of visiting Todd Schorr in his studio recently to take a first look at his latest body of work for his upcoming show at Merry Karnowsky (teased). The rendered details, composition, and concepts behind each of paintings in this exhibition were perfectly planned and executed. Openings: Transcenders @ Gallery 1988 LA

“Transcenders” opened in Los Angeles at Gallery 1988 last night. The group show features work from Jason D’Aquino, Doktor A, Scott Scheidly, Jason Limon, and Michael Page. All of these artists are from out of town, but luckily, AM was able to meet up with Jason D’Aquino, Michael Page, and Jason Limon at last night’s opening. Camille Rose Garcia Squid & Peppermint Man Dolls

As previously noted, Camille Rose Garcia’s work will be on display starting today at the Jonathan Levine Booth (SCOPE) now that the NY art fairs have started. Also available will be her wonderful Seymore Squidley (48″ x 8″ x 8″) and Peppermint Man (26″ x 5.5″ x 5.5″) plushes priced at $400 and $600 respectively released by her toy company PITCO. Preview: Lola & Super School @ Copro Gallery

A couple interesting shows are opening this weekend at Copro Gallery (formerly Copro Nason Gallery) at the Bergamot Station complex in Santa Monica. The first is “Natural Beauties,” a solo show from Lola after her recent successful showing at Corey Helford Gallery. Teaser: Todd Schorr “The World We Live In” @ Merry Karnowsky

One of most anticipated shows of the year is coming up at the end of this month at Merry Karnowsky in Los Angeles. One of the giants in the “low brow/pop surrealism” scene, Todd Schorr, is opening his first solo show in quite some time entitled “The World We Live In.” Look for much more coverage of this show here on AM in the weeks leading up to the March 28th opening. Openings: Jeremy Fish “The Ambush” @ Fecal Face Gallery

Jeremy Fish’s mini show “The Ambush” opened last night at at Fecal Face Gallery in SF. On display was a large wall mural along with some wall wood sculptural pieces (one seen above). Available for purchase was Fish’s largest print to date (22″ x 34″) also entitled “The Ambush” with a run of 30 and reasonably priced for the size at $200.  Take a look at the print as well as opening photos after the jump…
