Takashi Murakami’s Geisai 12 Art Fair

AM was excited to have been in attendance for the 12th installment of Takashi Murakami’s self-represented artist art fair, Geisai, held in Tokyo, Sunday March 8. It was quite an experience, with hundreds of young and emerging artists presenting their own paintings, drawings, sculptures or performance art together for one whirlwind day. During Armory Week, there were a few things that caught our attention. One of the highlights of the Bridge Art Fair was British gallery Opus Art who traveled from the UK to show New York just what they have to offer. Last night, AM was fortunate enough to attend Brendan Monroe’s (interviewed) opening and book signing at the Park Life Store in San Francisco. Â Brendan, who is soft spoken, modest and rather inviting, cheerfully signed and doodled copies of his new book, b. monroe. A unexpected pairing of artists will be opening their show this Friday the 13th at Thinkspace Gallery in the Silverlake District. Canadian artist Matthew Feyld (interview by sourharvest) will be presenting a new body of work along with David MacDowell with his debut solo show. We like Feyld’s clean lines, colors and his strange cast of charaters. MacDowell’s work is like satiric political cartoons on steroids filled with caricatures of famous celebrities in unlikely but often hilarious situations. More preview pics after the jump.
