Interviews/Showing: eL Seed – ‘Tabula Rasa’ @ Lazinc

Recently in London, eL Seed opened his first UK show called Tabula Rasa at Lazinc. The featured works draw together ideas and influences from many of the projects that the French-Tunisian artist has been working on around the world over the last seven years. The exhibition’s title references the epistemological concept that the human mind starts as a blank slate and that our reason and knowledge come from our own experiences, rather than anything innately inside us from birth. The social constructs within which we live […]

The large sculptural work is a followup to the pieces that were created for his exhibition in Tokyo last year (covered), and will be on display when the American artist’s solo Eternal Journey opens at the LOTTE Museum of Art in Seoul on April 4th. Take a look at some more photos of Gaia down below… Photo credit: Khoi Nguyen. Discuss James Jean here.

Upcoming: Oli Epp – “Contactless” @ Richard Heller Gallery

March 16th will mark the US solo debut of Oli Epp with a showing with Richard Heller Gallery in Los Angeles entitled Contactless. The new body of work is so named because of the London-based artist’s act of painting (use of airborne paint and limited touch), but also speaks to the modern world’s detachment from social contact as we become more dependent on technology to serve our needs. Epp’s imagery looks to the darker side of everyday life, with recognizable brands of consumerism ever present, and a […]

On April 6th, Corey Helford Gallery will be presenting new works from Josie Morway including ten substantial pieces (ranging from 16″ x 20″ to 36″ x 48″). Entitled The Remediators, the Boston-based artist’s new surreal wildlife paintings were inspired the idea of bioremediation – in which plants, animals or microorganisms break down contamination in soil or water. Morway further states – “I have a deep love for wildlife and an acute terror about the increasing imbalances in our ecosystems and the cavalier destruction caused by human industry. […]

Palms Hotel Suite Designed By Damien Hirst

After unveiling an impressive 620 million “Dust to Gold” renovation last year featuring over 150 artworks placed throughout the hotel, the Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas recently added a hotel suite designed by Damien Hirst. The 9,000-square-foot two-story sky villa which they call the “Empathy Suite” features pieces from the British artist embedded throughout the living space. Signature motifs like his butterflies, dots, and pharmaceuticals, range from references like graphics on the linens, carpet, and furniture, to original works like his formaldehyde shark tank and medicine cabinet pieces. Streets: Tristan Eaton – “Monster Wall” @ Universal Studios (Los Angeles)

Over the course of a few weeks, Tristan Eaton recently finished painting a mural on backlot of Universal Studios featuring five of their iconic monsters. The 50-by-200-foot piece looks to be the LA-based artist’s best work yet and is a good example of the aesthetic his fans have grown to love including his signature patchwork style, attention to detail, and his use of references (he was able to explore Universal’s secret archive and view all of the original posters and ephemera from all of the monster movies). The wall, a massive soundstage […]
