Openings: COPE2 – “Transition” @ TT Gallery

A true graf legend, COPE2 recently opened up a show in his home city of New York.  The new body of work showing at the TT-Underground Gallery entitled “Transition” was a colorful representation of the “wildstyle” graffiti the writer help popularize starting in the late 70s in South Bronx. The show will be up until April 12th so make sure you stop by to check it out. More opening photos after the jump via 12ozProphet.

Preview: “Martha Cooper : Remix” @ Carmichael Gallery

We have a big art night tonight in Culver City and one of the trifecta of shows is opening at the Carmichael Gallery. Seminal street art and graf photographer, Martha Cooper (interviewed), will be in town with an exhibition (Martha Cooper : Remix) she curated where artists were asked to reinterpret one of her many famous photographs.  Martha was gracious enough to send over several snaps she took of artists holding their piece side by side with their source of inspiration. Take a full look […]

Openings: Tessar Lo & Andrew Hem – “MAPS” & “Building From The Ground Up” @ Show & Tell Gallery

Last week, the Show & Tell Gallery in Toronto played host to two new bodies of work, MAPS and Building From The Ground Up, from Tessar Lo and Andrew Hem (interviewed) respectively. Toronto collectors packed the showspace to get a glimpse of Tessar’s eyecatching and colorful abstract paintings as well as Andrew’s whimsical sculptures among other things. We wish you could have seen it in person but we have the next best thing – more opening photos courtesy of the gallery after the jump…

Streets: D*Face (Los Angeles) – Part II

Reminiscent of the Zombie Oscar Statues he installed in Runyon Canyon and in the parking lot of the famous Mel’s Drive-In in Hollywood in 2010, D*Face (featured) placed a custom tombstone early this morning at the Charlie Sheen star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Make sure you stop by on Saturday night at the Corey Helford Gallery to check out his new body of work entitled Going Nowhere Fast (for a preview, see our studio visit) and also to enjoy the mural he painted […]

The evening included a live painting session by Lamour Supreme and Greg Mishka, as well as a ticket raffle with the proceeds going to the Japan Red Cross. A few highlights of […]

Preview: Kris Kuksi – “Pneumatic” @ Roq La Rue

Master mixed media cut chemist, Kris Kuski, is set to reveal a new body of work in Seattle tonight, the first since showing at Art Basel Miami (covered) last December. Opening at Roq La Rue, Pneumatic will exhibit the Kansas-based artist’s talents through his signature remixing of found objects and model components (thousands in most cases!) into his self-dubbed “post industrial rocco” sculptural assemblages. These insanely intricate works should juxtapose nicely against the soft, eerie collection of paintings from Travis Louie (featured), entitled The Creature […]

Openings: Josh Keyes – “The Magician’s Garden” @ Fecal Face Dot Gallery

Tonight, things kind of came full circle as Josh Keyes (interviewed) returned to one of the first galleries / websites to support him out there – Fecal Face Dot Gallery. The intriguing new body of work was entitled The Magician’s Garden (previewed) and dealt with issues relating to “genetically enhanced and modified plants and organisms”, as discussed in a recent interview, and was comprised of four paintings and six works in graphite (first time drawings were included in a show for Josh with more to […]

Publications: ‘Cement Eclipses’ by Isaac Cordal

Isaac Cordal has a pretty unique take on street art and after seeing his work online for a while, AM recently came across some of his concrete sculptures whilst wandering around the streets of London late at night with a group of friends in Brick Lane. One of our party, who shall not be named, found out the hard way that the little concrete guys are meant to stay in their surroundings rather than being taken for home consumption, as Isaac uses a high strength […]

Preview: Travis Louie – “The Creature Show” @ Roq La Rue

Tomorrow night, up in Seattle, The Creature Show will be opening up at the Roq La Rue Gallery. Some of Travis Louie’s (featured) famous vintage portraiture will be on display, and  this time of his Victorian-age characters and their unusual pets (although it looks like some creatures are going solo). AM really likes the detail in this new collection of paintings with more full-body perspectives and is looking forward to seeing it on the walls. More preview images after the jump…
