Streets: Basel Week Miami ’10 Overview (Part I)

Whether the artists were participating on the legal walls like Primary Flight, Wynwood Walls, Graffiti Gone Global, or just freelancing it, there were certainly many new pieces thrown up for this year’s Art Basel Week Miami. You have already seen us focus in on some work from Ron English, Shepard Fairey, Gaia and Jeff Soto, but check more work in Part I of our overview of the murals. Pics we gathered after the jump…

Basel Week Miami ’10 Barry McGee Book Signing

Much like with the KAWS signing (covered), we informed you earlier in the week that Barry McGee would host a signing for his new book at the Ratio 3 booth during Art Basel Miami Beach. His impressive clusters constructed at the Bay Area booth (covered), much like those at the Roberts & Tilton’s space (covered), served as the perfect backdrop for Barry to spend some time with fans and beautify some copies of his brilliantly assembled book produced by Alleged Press and Damiani Editore. The […]

Basel Week Miami ’10: Roberts & Tilton

Another of the many temporary Los Angeles gallery transplants with an impressive booth at Art Basel Miami Beach was Roberts & Tilton (teased). Intriguing work in an array of mediums from Kehinde Wiley, Ed Templeton, Titus Kaphar, Noah Davis, Jimmy Baker, Ai Yamaguchi, Adam Pendleton and Ellen De Meutter were presented in striking fashion. Much like with Ratio 3 (covered), a large chunk of real estate was set aside for Barry McGee to unleash another of his dynamic cluster installations. All told, a solid presentation […]

Videos: Art Basel Miami 2010

For those of you who feel photos are not enough for the full Art Basel experience, you will enjoy this new video from Vernissage TV. Although still not quite like being their yourself (we aren’t rubbing it in), the footage can give you an idea of how huge the main fair is and how massive the amount of art involved is.

Streets: ROA (Los Angeles) Part II

Unurth recently published a couple new street pieces (with a third huge piece yet to be revealed) from ROA while he was in Los Angeles for his pop up show (covered). We’re sure you can guess that something anatomical is inside this box by the LA River, but take a look at the full reveal after the jump. Also, another piece following the life cycle of mice can be seen outside the gallery space where he showed. And, in case your wondering, wanderlust has hit […]

Basel Week ’10 Pulse Miami First Look

Thursday morning, AM attended the private preview brunch at Pulse Miami, and with cappuccino and croissant in hand, got a first look at the fair’s impressive selection. The energy was high as eager collectors of emerging and established art filled the venue, and it wasn’t long until red dots began popping up beside snatched-up works throughout the show. Get a first look of images from Pulse Miami, after the jump.

Basel Week Miami ’10: New Image Art

Last night, New Image Art took over South Beach’s Cafeina for a group exhibition (teased) that should prove to be one of the more compelling events of Art Basel Week. As is often the case, Sao Paulo street art sensations Osgemeos stole the show with their heartfelt interpretations of their Brazilian countrymen, always dressed to impress in colorfully patterned attire. A selection of giant canvases, executed flawlessly with spray cans and incorporating the playful imagery and vibrant palette that has become patented by the Twins, […]

Basel Week Miami ’10: Blum & Poe

Los Angeles contemporary art staple Blum & Poe was yet another in a seemingly never ending stream of must-see booths at the main fair, Art Basel Miami Beach. Of particular interest was a massive new work by Takashi Murakami, exhibiting the Japanese pop art icon’s unique range and continued evolution within his self-branded “superflat” style. A diverse lineup of painters and photographers native to the prestigious gallery, including Zhang Huan, Florian Maier-Aichen, Dave Muller and Henry Taylor, filled out the walls. Check out more of […]

Basel Week Miami ’10 – KAWS Book Signing @ The Standard Hotel

As we reported earlier in the week, The Standard Miami served as ground zero today for a more intimate, less rushed signing of KAWS’ new book with Rizzoli, where guests were invited to sit down with the artist and share some time. Partnering with OHWOW, the local gallery who seemingly has their hands in everything special going on during Art Basel Week, the swanky pop-up shop was ripe with exclusively published art books, a selection of artwork and custom products only offered for the weekend […]
