Sometimes, we get spoiled at AM with behind the scenes studio visits where we see much of the art work before show openings, but in this case, our visit to David Choe’s (featured) studio definitely did not spoil our appetite for his latest series of works which were revealed at a private opening last night. Los Angeles leads the worldwide charge this weekend with a slew of simply massive shows going off. From the return of David Choe at Lazarides’ Beverly Hills pop-up space and Phil Frost’s much anticipated LA solo debut at Known Gallery to a very ambitious show at Scion curated by Roger Gastman, LA is the place to be yet again this weekend. Compiled and edited by Patrick Nguyen and Stuart Mackenzie, this 400 page monster-sized tome has been over 2 years in the making. Looks like a second possible Banksy piece has been spotted in the Bay Area on Valencia Street with what looks to be an obvious reference to his Cop with Koons Dog stencil in LA that was stolen recently. The good people behind D.I.Y. America (who also produced Beautiful Losers), a documentary series, have focused one of their episodes on one of our favorites street artist duos, Os Gemeos. In this video, you can see the twins being interviewed about their work, history, and philosophy and also there is some pretty awesome footage of them in action and their paintings. Streets: Banksy in San Francisco?

Hmm, with the series of premieres already making it’s way across the nation for Banksy’s “Exit Through the Gift Shop” including LA (covered) and New York (covered), it’s only natural to assume that Banksy could easily whiz up the Cali coast to No Cal and hit up San Francisco. We got a tip from our friends at Warholian that this could be the latest piece from the masked bomber. Located in the Chinatown area, it looks very familiar… What do you think? Discuss Banksy here.

Earlier in the week, we gave you a sneak peek of the show from inside David Choe’s (featured) secret LA studio. But, our friends at LAzarides 90210 also got us a quick look at the install progress in the luxe Beverly Hills space. As you can see from the picture above, David didn’t forget his famous watercolors. The Shepard Fairey’s (featured) mural on Bowery & Houston that we first teased here looks to be pretty much finished. Entitled “These Parties Disgust Me”, the piece is about the dysfunction of the two-party political system in Washington and also about encouraging activism. The famous location, hosted by Deitch Projects, was recently the site of an amazing Os Gemeos mural, but now is home to the new Obey mural in preparation for the opening of the “May Day” show opening on May 1st. AM went along to Opus Art’s opening of group show “Fresh Cream 2” (previewed) at its Newcastle gallery last week to check out the collective wares of Lex Thomas, Hush, Ghost of a Dream, Charlotte Bracegirdle, Alexandra McLain, Hector de Gregorio, Karl de Vroomen and Teresa Duck. The show brought together a great level of variance in the outputs, mediums and techniques used by the artists involved. FAME Festival ’10: Swoon

Well, shortly after announcing their lineup for 2010, this year’s FAME Festival is already underway. First to arrive were Swoon (interviewed) and Ben Wolf to participate in this annual Italian celebration of street art (take a look at our coverage of the 2009 event here). Unfortunately, Wolf’s work was destroyed before it was photographed but here are some photos of Swoon pasting up an old chapel as well as other parts of town. More images after the jump.
