Video: David Ellis “Musical Trash” Installation

David Ellis must be one of the most versatile artists out there with his multifaceted approach to art. You may remember his work as a street artist in the impressive “graffiti-animation” video he did with Blu at the Fame Festival last year. Or perhaps you enjoyed his gallery work for New Image Art last summer? What stands out most for us recently though was the the huge trash sound installation we experienced that he created for the Anonymous Gallery booth at the SCOPE art fair […]

Streets: Jef Aerosol

Famed French street artist Jef Aerosol is set to open his debut New York solo show “All Shook Up” tonight at Ad Hoc Art.  Look for brand new stenciled works as well as classic pieces on paper, wood, and found objects. Of course, as is custom with his “trade,” he set about getting up pieces all around town to coincide with the exhibition. Take a look at several other pics after the jump at all the street work which of course include his iconic red […]

Streets: Judith Supine

After his takeover of the New Image Art booth at Art Basel, it appears that Judith Supine found some time to do some traveling. That hasn’t stopped him from taking his art along and getting up in some unique locales. Take a look at another from the collage specialist after the jump…

Highlights: Recommended openings (Jan 27 – 30)

As we gear up for February, the last shows of January are upon us this weekend. Los Angeles sees the debut of another new art fair in the form of Art Los Angeles Contemporary taking place at the Pacific Design Center and NYC welcomes Damien Hirst. The place to be this weekend appears to be Brazil though where Baseman (interviewed) and SHAG (interviewed) will be rocking things. As always, no shortage of goodness to go ‘round. Get out and support the arts! Check out the […]

Teaser: The Faile Bast Deluxx Fluxx Arcade @ Lazarides (Greek Street)

Probably the show that AM is looking forward to most next month would be the Faile and Bast UK show at Lazarides opening February 12th. Both floors of the Greek Street location will be taken over by the Brooklyn duo and long-time collaborator Bast in what is promised to be an truly immersive installation with “80’s populist culture” as the stated source of inspiration (perhaps referenced in the title and logo for the show seen above). Also as a tease, proportedly there will be an […]

Benefit: “Auction For Haiti” @ Brooklynite Gallery

Our friends at Brooklynite Gallery are having an auction to raise money for the Haitian Orphanage – Chances For Children. They put together some nice pieces from artists such as Guy Denning, Miss Bugs, Beejoir, C215, Eelus and K-Guy. You can check out the pieces and bid here. With 100% of the proceeds going directly to the orphanage, it’s a definite win-win for all who participate in this very charitable event. More images after the jump.

Benefit / Releases: David Choe – “Haitian Girl” Print for Yéle Haiti

It’s great to see more support from artists in our community as they rally support for the relief efforts in Haiti. David Choe took time from his preparation for his SF show to work with Hemway Industries on a benefit print to raise money for Yéle Haiti, a foundation founded by Wyclef Jean. The giclée print “Haitian Girl” measures 18″ x 24″ and is limited to an edition size of 50. All proceeds are being donated to Yéle Haiti. It is available immediately here, so go donate […]

Bumblebee Installation @ Thinkspace

If you remember, AM last hung out with Bumblebee last year, as he placed one of his signature phonebooth installations on the streets of LA. Well, he’s taken it a step further with this pretty cool installation in the front alcove of Thinkspace for the “A Cry For Help” show (covered). Take a look at some more additional photos after the jump…

Banksy Roundup

We’ve put together a little roundup of recent Banksy news that will hopefully tie up some loose ends.  In the video above, you will see a message from Mr. B – read to the audience before the screening of his documentary “Exit Through the Gift Shop” at the Sundance Film Festival. We wish we could have been there, but there are a couple reviews out so far (here & here).  Also, for lucky fans in the UK, it looks like there are already some tickets […]
