Interviews: Labrona

AM recently caught up with Canadian street artist Labrona as he was preparing for a group show this weekend in Berlin at Neurotitan Gallery. He talked about his gallery work compared to his outdoor work as well as some adventures while painting in the train yards. Full interview after the jump…

Preview / Interview: Sarah Joncas – “Shadow Play” @ Roq La Rue Gallery

Canadian artist, Sarah Joncas, is set to open her show “Shadow Play” at Seattle’s Roq La Rue gallery this Friday, February 12th. As the title of her show implies, not only will her paintings include the interplay of “shadow” imagery, “play” also references one of her inspirations – film noir and all that comes along with that genre. The soon-to-be graduated art student talks about this and much more in the interview we conducted with her – after the jump…

Interviews / Preview: Tristram Lansdowne – “Refuge” @ Joshua Liner Gallery

Toronto-based artist Tristram Lansdowne (featured) opens his New York – and United States – solo debut “Refuge” this coming Saturday, February 13th, at Joshua Liner Gallery in the heart of Chelsea.  The exhibition follows his recent solo show with LE Gallery in Toronto last year (see our coverage here) and we’re definitely enjoying Tristram’s vision of the defaced and derelict, along with the surprises that may lie within or beneath the surface. AM caught up with Tristram and put some questions to him ahead of the […]

Interviews: LUDO

We recently caught up with LUDO, a Parisian street artist we told you about last year, for an interview session to learn more about him and his work. We talked a little about his recent series of street pieces entitled “Nature’s Revenge,” his background and techniques, and some exciting news about his first solo show – all this and more after the jump…

Preview / Interviews: Roland Tamayo – “Whispers” @ G 1988 (SF)

Los Angeles-based artist and AM friend Roland Tamayo is set to open his part of a four-person show at Gallery 1988 in SF this Friday night, February 5th (7-10pm). The show entitled “Whispers” will also include Tin (interviewed), Kendra Binney, and May Ann Licudine. We took some time to talk with Roland to learn more about him and this new body of work. He tells us that he finds beauty in both nature and in what man can create leading to a juxtaposition of both […]

Interviews: Colin & Sas Christian

As mentioned in our preview (here & here), Colin & Sas Christian are set to open their show “Inner Space” this week at the Opera Gallery in London. Opening on February 4th, the show will feature Colin’s signature large scale anime-inspired sculptures and Sas’ paintings of luminous and iconic doe-eyed femme fatales as the US-based husband and wife duo return to their home country. Although they work in different mediums, one can see their work shares a common thread through their experiences together, as well […]

Interviews: Jeremy Geddes

We weren’t all too familiar with Jeremy Geddes’ work when we planned our coverage of the HK Venture show where Ashley Wood was the main draw for us. Seeing Geddes’ amazing visuals was definitely an eye-opener for us, so much so that we dedicated another article focusing in on his “cosmonaut” series of paintings. We caught up recently with the Melbourne-based artist for a question and answer session to learn more about him and his work. Full interview after the jump…

Dual Artist Interview: Hush x Dan Baldwin Collaboration Show @ Zero Cool Gallery

Our friends at Zero Cool gallery will be opening a new group show entitled “Don’t believe the Type” tonight in London that will feature four large scale collaboration paintings by Hush (interviewed) and Dan Baldwin (interviewed). The artists have not worked together in the past, but when AM heard that they would be pooling talents, we thought that this could be something special. Each started work on two pieces and when they finished their elements, the paintings were traded over for the other’s work. You […]

Interviews: Eric Nakamura – “Giant Robot Biennale” @ the Japanese American National Museum

The “Giant Robot Biennale – 15 Years” exhibition is set to open tomorrow at the Japanese American National Museum (JANM) in the heart of Little Tokyo in Los Angeles. We are looking forward to seeing what looks to be a fantastic show with artists such as David Choe, Jeff Soto (interviewed), James Jean (interviewed), Souther Salazar, kozyndan, Rob Sato, Jack Long and many more. Also, we had the opportunity to talk with the man behind it all – Eric Nakamura, one of the founders of […]

Openings / Interviews: Luc Price – “Jesus Help Me Find My Proper Place” @ Black Rat Press

Thursday night saw the opening of Luc Price’s “Jesus Help Me Find My Proper Place” show at The Black Rat Press gallery in London. Taking a major departure from his previous paintings and collages, and ditching his street art name of Cyclops, Luc has created a major installation for this show that offers an intimate glimpse into his provocative views on life, death and everything in between. Not a conventional or easy show by any means, but it’s good to see an artist pushing himself […]
