Streets: D*Face (Melbourne)

With D*Face’s (interviewed) solo opening tonight at the Metro Gallery, it’s about time we updated you on his work in the streets leading up to the show. From the looks of things, his oversized spray can installations seem to be popular, but check out the other photos of D getting his logo up all over Melbourne, as well as an invitation to join the Order of the Wings. Streets: Case – Portrait of Khaled Said on Berlin Wall

Last month in Berlin, the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Foundation’s Human Rights Award for 2011 was awarded to Khaled Said of Egypt and Slim Amamou of Tunisia. Said’s sister, Zahraa Kassem received the award on the late activist’s behalf at a ceremony that included the unveiling of a portrait created by Andreas von Chrzanowski (aka Case) on remnants of the Berlin Wall and will be eventually placed in the Freedom Park (covered). Case, who we last caught up with at the Outside/In show in Los Angeles, utilized his […]

Streets: Angry Woebots & Pixel Pancho

Two members of the Army of Snipers crew, Aaron “Angry Woebots” Martin and Pixel Pancho, recently teamed up together for some large murals in Los Angeles. Martin doesn’t usually go so big, but his friend and collaborator from Italy showed the way. We especially like this wall with Martin’s signature panda character changed into a grizzly and Pixel Pancho with his robotic version. More photos after the jump…

Art Focus: Matthew Cox

This week, our Art Focus is on Philadelphia-based Matthew Cox, whose series of medical x-rays and embroidery recently caught our eyes. The Parsons and Otis trained artist has taken radiographs and stitched back in his imagined content partially over the skeletal elements leading to an intriguing new mesh of reality and the imaginary. For those interested, Embroidered X-Rays will be showing at the Packer/Schopf Gallery (Booth E-407) this year at PULSE in Miami, part of Art Basel Week. This particular series of works is just one […]
